Sinbad Recovering After Suffering Stroke | Game Rant

Actor and comedian Sinbad, known for projects like the Cosby Show spinoff A Different World to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Jingle All the Way, recently suffered a stroke according to his family. The family says he has just begun to recover from the incident.

The statement gave no details on exactly when the stroke happened, only saying it was recent and that the beloved comedian was now recovering. “Sinbad is a light source of love and joy for many generations,” the family stated, “while he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon.” His family’s confident tone hopefully suggests that the world will be hearing more from Sinbad soon enough.

Sinbad, born David Adkins, saw an explosion in popularity in the 80s and 90s, knocking out special after special on HBO before quickly moving on to shows like A Different World and The Sinbad Show. He also served as one of the many hosts for the long-running Showtime at the Apollo from 1989-1991. Many who grew up in the 90s likely remember him best as the stressed-out postal worker Myron in Jingle All the Way, showcasing an epic and energetic rivalry with Schwarzenegger’s Howard as the two struggled to buy the hottest toy of the season for their respective kids.

Sinbad has been keeping busy in recent years as well, appearing as Milton in 2018’s short-lived sitcom Rel created by Lil Rel Howery. He’d also offered his voice to such shows as Steven UniverseAmerican Dad, and Disney’s The Lion Guard, which served as a series follow up to 1994’s massively successful animated feature The Lion King. The show saw him briefly starring as Uroho, a charming, thieving baboon who eventually turned over a new leaf (spoiler alert).

Even aside from his most well-known work, Sinbad has been entertaining the world through his comedy and acting for longer than many of his fans have even been alive. From his successful stand-up comedy specials to plenty of guest roles, it’s difficult to deny the impact he’s had on many in the comedy and film worlds. Even if someone only knows him from a 90s film that doesn’t actually exist, that’s just one more bit of influence the veteran comic has exerted on the world.

Here’s hoping the old pro bounces back soon, for his own sake and the sake of those who love him. A stroke is some nasty business, but Sinbad’s got the support of generations of fans and loved ones behind him. Best wishes go out to him and his family.
