Animal Crossing: New Horizons Winter Update Adding New NPCs

In the months since its debut earlier this March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received a ton of new content through its regular free updates, bringing festive new furniture and fun activities to the game. It seems Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ next free update will land in a few days’ time, bringing with it a number of winter-focused events and additions.

Included among these are two new NPCs that will visit the player’s village, with one being themed around the Thanksgiving season and the other Christmas. It seems they’ll be a little more than just adorable new faces to spot around town, however, with a new Winter Update Trailer for the game hinting that they’ll offer the player tasks centered around their respective holidays.

The first NPC is Franklin the Turkey, who will allegedly pop up for players on Thanksgiving (or Turkey Day in the Animal Crossing world) and task them with helping him make a huge meal for the village. Being a “master chef,” it seems he’ll take the lead on actually cooking up the extravagant feast, however, players will still get the opportunity to help him. The small snippet of gameplay surrounding Franklin’s addition in the Winter Update trailer shows players collecting ingredients to add to the turkey’s meal. As with most non-villager NPCs that pop up in players’ towns, helping Franklin will likely net some fun rewards.

The second addition is Jingle the Black-Nosed Reindeer, who will appear in the player’s village on “Toy Day” – AKA Christmas Eve – with a very festive objective for players to complete. After interacting with him, players will have to lug a sack of presents around their town, handing them out to residents and spreading Christmas cheer. It looks to be a fun activity for those eager to play some Animal Crossing this holiday and, much like with Franklin the Turkey, it’s sure to result in some festive goodies.

The update will bring a number of other fun bits and pieces as well, including new reactions, hairstyles, and the ability to finally expand the storage available inside the player’s home. It will also allow users to transfer save data, which has been a big point of concern for many since the game launched earlier this year. The update confirms that the next major slice of Animal Crossing content will be available next January, but until then, it seems players will have a lot of new content to keep them occupied.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now on Nintendo Switch.
