Very soon, the free Winter Update will hit Animal Crossing: New Horizons and along with some quality-of-life updates. Though it’s not for another month, players will get to experience the classic event Toy Day in December.
Toy Day is a holiday in the Animal Crossing universe, typically falling on December 24 and ambiguously combining the different December holidays. Though it mostly resembles Christmas, Nintendo has made efforts to add decorations for other holidays such as Kwanzaa. Thanks to Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ expansive custom design features, players have also been making their own Hanukkah items for the upcoming celebration.
Many have been wondering what Toy Day will look like in the newest Animal Crossing installment, but it looks like it will operate similarly to past games. Like New Leaf and City Folk, Toy Day will land on December 24, and Jingle will pay the players’ islands a visit. There are a ton of glowing and Christmas-themed decorations that seemingly can be crafted, and players can dress up like Jingle with the Santa outfit. If it follows the trend of past games, the Santa outfit will be sold in the month of December.
In New Leaf, players were tasked with delivering presents to villagers dressed as Santa Claus, and it looks like players can expect the same event for New Horizons. If the trend of similarity continues, players will also get hints from their villagers about what they want for Toy Day throughout the month of December.
In Nintendo’s video highlighting the free Winter Update that will come to Animal Crossing: New Horizons players on November 19, Snowflakes can be seen floating through the air in a fashion similar to Maple Leaves and Cherry Blossoms. With Snowflakes, players will be able to craft chilly winter items like the Frozen Bed, Ice Wand, and a 3 Tier Snowman after acquiring the recipes for them in balloons.
Toy Day in Animal Crossing will be especially important this year. With cases of Covid-19 surging and many parts of the world heading back into strict lockdown procedures, New Horizons will likely act as a way of spending time with family and friends while socially distant, much like it did during Halloween.
Also as a part of the free Winter Update, players will get to help the first-class chef Franklin cook up some food for Turkey Day celebrations on November 26. It looks like all of those pumpkins players have been stocking up on will finally have another use.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
