Pokemon GO Unveils Massive GO Beyond Update | Game Rant

2020 has been a wild year for the gaming industry in general, but Pokemon GO has been a particularly interesting product to keep a close eye on. When stay-at-home orders and lockdowns began, there were concerns that the game, which is built around traveling through cities and interacting with other players in person, might not survive the year. Luckily for fans of the game, the team at Niantic quickly pivoted and made the mobile AR experience a play-at-home friendly game with tons of bonuses and tweaks that made staying socially distant and still engaging in the world of PoGO not only possible, but enjoyable.

The game’s annual gathering, GO Fest, became a worldwide remote event and that was just one of the many changes that helped keep Pokemon GO players engaged and active throughout 2020. As the year is now getting ready to come to a close, the team at Niantic wants to launch players into the new year with a huge new update that dramatically changes many aspects of the game. The GO Beyond update is ready to arrive in just a few weeks and usher in a brand new era of Pokemon GO.

The massive update includes some features that have been teased for a long time, like an increased level cap, alongside some other surprises that Niantic managed to keep under wraps throughout development, like the new Seasons the game will be experiencing. GO Beyond brings a ton of changes and players of any level have a lot to be excited about. The update finally offers level 40 players a chance to prove their skills and climb further up the ranks with special challenges that come along with a new XP grind and lower level players will be able to put in their own work towards reaching max level with the help of some exciting bonus XP events throughout the rest of the year.

There’s a lot to cover in the GO Beyond update and Game Rant will be posting a detailed breakdown of each of the major new features and changes, but here is quick overview…

Beginning November 30, Trainers will experience a rebalanced leveling system that includes a level cap increase to 50. Trainers who reach level 40 before the end of 2020 will also receive exclusive rewards. Experience bonuses are now in effect to make it even more accessible for Trainers to hit that goal. New Trainers who may not have reached the highest levels yet will find the leveling process even more rewarding.

Every three months, Trainers can expect to see a new season with major changes and new Pokémon. In-game events will continue to run within each season, but may be more heavily tied to the season itself. In addition to regular changes at the start of each season, Trainers can also expect to see mega updates to Mega Evolution Pokémon throughout, and changes to GO Battle League format, rankings and rewards structure.

Starting December 2, Pokémon originally discovered in the Kalos region will start appearing in Pokémon GO, including: Chepsin, Fennekin, Pyroar, Froakie, Fletchling, and more. There will be a number of related events Trainers can look forward to, including the Special Celebration Event from Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday December 8, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time and the Mysterious Raid Egg where a mysterious Pokémon will be hatching from a one-star Raid Egg.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and waiting for the GO Beyond update to officially arrive, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
