Demon’s Souls’ reputation precedes it. Anyone at all familiar with the Soulslike subgenre that spawned from it knows the FromSoftware action-RPG can be incredibly brutal by design, a fact that remains true with Bluepoint Games’ PS5 remake. However, one player has found a way to turn that brutality back on Demon’s Souls and become capable of killing every enemy with a single hit.
There are intended ways to mitigate the game’s challenge, or at least better equip players for it. Naturally, learning the ins and outs of its combat, enemies, and stage hazards is the chief way to get through it, but players also have the option to spend the souls they gain from fallen enemies to level up different stats, which provides health and stamina boosts and other beneficial enhancements. The problem there is it can take a long time to gain enough souls to get the most out of each of Demon’s Souls‘s different character classes.
However, thanks to a glitch discovered by ymfah on YouTube, players will be able to skip most of that and become unstoppable within a few hours of starting the game. Better yet, triggering the glitch is actually very simple. All players need to do is activate the Gold Coin, a new item that temporarily boosts a player’s Luck stat, and talk to the Maiden in Black in the Nexus while her own Luck-boosting effect is active. The combination of these two effects happening at the same time causes the game to freak out and start multiplying the player’s Luck infinitely.
What makes this especially broken is the fact that one of Demon’s Souls weapons, the Blueblood Sword, scales its physical and magical damage with a player’s Luck, causing it to become an infinitely powerful one-hit kill weapon with the glitch. Since the Blueblood Sword is the key to this exploit, ymfah’s tutorial mainly focuses on the steps new players will need to take to craft and be able to wield it (while also providing some helpful strategies for cheesing a few of the bosses they’ll encounter in the process).
Once those steps are done, players need simply do the coin trick and watch as everything from bosses to invading players go down with a single blow. What’s more, the infinitely-increased Luck has the added benefit of ensuring that players are guaranteed to receive rare drops, including Gold Coins, which makes it even easier for them to repeat the coin trick as many times as they want.
That is, of course, until Bluepoint patches it out. Given how severely this exploit breaks the intended difficulty curve, it’s only a matter of time before the developer removes it, so anyone interested in playing Demon’s Souls in a very un-Soulslike fashion should try it out before it’s too late.
Demon’s Souls is available for PS5.
