The Snyder Cut Will Have Over 150 Minutes of Unseen Footage

Zack Snyder, the director of the new version of Justice League, really can’t help himself when it comes to teasing his latest project. Recently he took to Vero, which is apparently some kind of social media platform, to break down the latest trailer for the project, and tease some new information. One of the more interesting tidbits is that the director has confirmed that his version of Justice League will contain somewhere in the ballpark of 150 minutes of never-before-seen footage.

A brief recap for those out of the loop: Justice League was meant to be DC’s version of The Avengers, a big team up that would be a huge blockbuster smash and kickstart a huge interconnected cinematic universe. After the disappointing returns for other DC films however, management started getting wary of the direction the projects had been taking and considered changing course mid-development. Due to a personal family tragedy, Snyder, who had been directing, needed to step down and was replaced by Joss Whedon. Under Whedon the tone and content of the film reportedly changed dramatically, and much of Snyder’s original footage was either tweaked or removed.

Thus, fans began a petition to let Zack Snyder return to the project and make his original vision a reality. After a lot of fan pressure, Warner Bros. relented, and gave Snyder a budget and timeline to release a new version of Justice League exclusively on HBO Max. Since then, Snyder has teased all sorts of changes that he is making to the film. There are some more subtle changes, like color grading and composition tweaks, and also major ones like adding DC villain Darkseid and completely redesigning current villain Steppenwolf.

The question remains however, what exactly was in those 150 minutes of unseen content? There have been suggestions from Snyder and others that Cyborg was once intended to be the heart of the film, so there may be quite a bit of him in these cut scenes. There have also been teases of additional Superman scenes in the past. On top of that, Snyder has also filmed completely new scenes with Jared Leto’s Joker, and there has been some significant overhauls to the CGI in the film. Fans won’t know how it all fits together however, until the project finally arrives on streaming.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on HBO Max on September 5th, 2021.
