Celebrate Okami’s 14th Birthday with Oversized Amaterasu Plush

It may not be as prolific as other Capcom franchises, like Resident Evil and Street Fighter, but it’s good to know that the publisher hasn’t completely forgotten Okami. Its free-to-play card game for mobile, Teppen, received new content based on Okami last month and now fans can pre-order a bunch of new merchandise being made for the game’s 14th anniversary, provided they live in Japan.

Specifically, nine pieces of Okami merchandise have been added to the E-Capcom website. These are a ceramic plate featuring the Brush Gods, two t-shirts emblazoned with brand-new artwork, a tote bag with art drawn by Okami artist Kenichiro Yoshimura, a small wallet with a cherry blossom pattern and made of deer leather, an over-the-shoulder bag, a compact mirror and, lastly, two plush toys of protagonist Amaterasu.

Rather than be accurate depictions of Okami‘s wolf hero, the plush toys have a more deformed, cuter design. The small one can fit in the palm of someone’s hand, while the larger one is perfectly suited for cuddling and is more detailed.

Unfortunately, according to the website, E-Capcom doesn’t deliver outside of Japan, so Western fans are out of luck, unless Capcom announces it will be distributing them via its Western stores.

Okami first released in 2006 and, since then, fans have been hopeful for a new sequel. There was Okamiden for the DS in 2011, but that’s considered to be more of a spiritual successor rather than a sequel.

Earlier this year, though, Ikumi Nakamura, who worked on the original game, said she had plans for an Okami 2 that she wanted to pitch to Capcom, though she’d want to bring the original team back together to make it.

Meanwhile, at Capcom, the company has recently suffered a nasty ransomware attack, which not only leaked information about upcoming projects but also compromised personal information of current and former employees.

Okami is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
