Here’s Why GTA 6 is Trending on Twitter | Game Rant

This morning, Grand Theft Auto fans were likely excited after opening Twitter. GTA 6 has been trending today, with over 12,000 tweets as of this writing. However, many of those tweets on the trending topic are an array of disappointed memes. Unfortunately for fans waiting to hear news of Grand Theft Auto 6, the topic was trending due to the reactions about a rumored update for Grand Theft Auto 5.

Based on a cryptic Rockstar tweet, a Gorillaz music video, and an earnings call with Take-Two Interactive, some have concluded that Grand Theft Auto has been teasing a massive update for the end of the year that will feature a map expansion. This news produced mixed reactions from fans, with many sharing their disappointment on Twitter. Even candy bar brand Snickers chimed in, calling the news “not satisfying.” Some fans believe that Rockstar should stop supporting GTA 5 and focus on the next installment in the series.

Fans on Twitter have flooded the trending GTA 6 topic with disappointment for the update, citing GTA 5‘s release date as a reason to move on. Grand Theft Auto 5 came out over seven years ago, and has received tons of updates that add content. However, the lack of news regarding GTA 6 is driving some fans crazy, based on the topic trending.

Fans may be upset with the lack of GTA 6 news, but if the rumored GTA 5 update is the “biggest update ever” as some are claiming, the amount of content and potential new locations will surely get some fans excited. There has been substantial evidence that Grand Theft Auto 5 will expand its map. In a music video that has since been removed, popular British band the Gorillaz drive around the city of Los Santos in GTA 5, and at the end an island location can be seen in the background.

During an earnings call with Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors that they are expecting the biggest quarter ever for GTA Online. He said, “Both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online will receive major updates later this fiscal year, featuring an extension to existing Frontier Pursuits for Red Dead Online, as well as Grand Theft Auto Online’s biggest update ever, featuring a new take on Heists in a new location.”

As for now, it seems like Rockstar will continue their support for GTA Online, with no news about GTA 6 coming just yet. A next-gen GTA 5 is in development, however the current version of the game does not benefit from next-gen capabilities using backwards compatibility.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to be announced, but is rumored to be in development.
