Ever since the stage demo at last year’s Xbox E3 briefing, Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand has been an integral part of the marketing for Cyberpunk 2077. Merging with the protagonist after they insert a mysterious bio-chip into their brain, it seems Silverhand is primed to become a key part of the RPG’s plot, as the player figures out how Silverhand is still alive.
That won’t be all though, as a new interview with Keanu Reeves reveals that players will be able to take control of the eccentric character at certain points in the game. As Reeves discusses his favorite parts about playing Silverhand, several clips are shown from the character’s perspective as he sings with his band and intimidates a thug in a bathroom.
GameSpot went on to confirm that these do showcase several in-game sequences where the player takes control of Silverhand, with players allegedly experiencing his memories. Seeing as the character is presumed dead prior to the events of Cyberpunk 2077, it seems likely these will flesh out his backstory, as well as reveal how and why he’s occupying the mind of V.
Speaking about portraying Silverhand, Reeves had a number of insights to share with fans. He said the character is one he’s had a lot of fun playing due to how much range he offers, with the varying dialogue options allowing him to perform the same scenes in a number of different ways. The trailer also highlights several clips of Silverhand, with his zany sense of humor and larger-than-life attitude making him seem like a fun traveling-companion to traverse Night City with.
Alongside the intriguing new look at Johnny Silverhand, CD Projekt Red delivered a lot of new information about Cyberpunk 2077 during today’s Night City Wire event. For one, a new gameplay trailer provided a deep-dive into the title, discussing more about its plot and the role players will fill in the game’s world.
All in all, it seems as though the game is gearing up to be a huge experience, with CD Projekt Red declaring that players will be embarking on a “next-generation adventure” when they boot up Cyberpunk 2077 next month. It should deliver on that claim further next year, when the game gets a free enhanced upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on December 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions releasing sometime next year.
