Resident Evil has seen a tremendous resurgence in terms of content and relevancy within the gaming community. Following the release of Resident Evil 7, many new Resident Evil projects began to surface, including remakes of older titles, a multitude of Netflix projects in development, and a reboot of the live action Resident Evil movies. While there is no confirmed release date for the film, new screenshots have been made public, depicting iconic shots from the first game.
There’s a fair amount of information that has been made public about the Resident Evil movie reboot, but there’s also a lot that fans don’t know. There hasn’t been much by way of official news from the studio in charge of the film, yet new screenshots depict what appears to be a familiar setting.
A screenshot depicting what appears to be a small part of the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil was released, in addition to multiple screenshots of the Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S. helicopter. It’s safe to assume these screenshots confirm what the director of the movie said in terms of taking the franchise back to its roots.
It’s surprising to see screenshots that clearly reference the opening of Resident Evil, immediately following other set photos depicting the Raccoon City Police Department building. The Spencer Mansion and the R.P.D. building were the primary set pieces for the first two Resident Evil games, without much overlap.
Based on this, it appears that the movie will attempt to cover the events of the first two games all in one movie, which to anyone who has played those classic Capcom titles might seem like quite the undertaking. A lot of significant story events occur between Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, so hopefully this movie doesn’t struggle with the task of portraying the story from both games in their entirety.
In any case, fans should be looking forward to when more concrete information regarding this movie is released to the public. Considering the movie may encompass multiple Resident Evil games, the fact that there hasn’t been much by way of an official report about the movie’s development could be seen as a concern. Ultimately, fans will have to continue to wait for further news on the film’s development, and hopefully a trailer or some form of promotional material gets released soon to give fans a better idea of what to expect.
The Resident Evil movie reboot is currently in development.
