Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mod Brings Final Fantasy 15’s Noctis to the Game

Despite the fact that the game has been out for nearly two years, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains one of the most popular games ever released on the Nintendo Switch. The community of players has grown astronomically over the last several months, including the dedicated members of the Super Smash Bros. modding community. One such modder has managed to insert the main protagonist from the most recent Final Fantasy title.

Quite a number of impressive feats have come from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate modding community, especially within the last several months. From having Among Us avatars as playable characters to having a playable version of Pepsi Man in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, quite a number of accomplishments have been achieved with a high level of detail. Though, one member of the modding community has gone an extra step further as it were.

One talented user has managed to create a playable version of Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy 15. It appears the modder used Byleth’s character and move set and remodeled the character to look like Noctis. The final result is incredibly impressive, especially the ways in which Noctis’s weapons swap in and out of battle, much like the gameplay in Final Fantasy 15 itself.

However, this mod does call attention to something rather important, and that’s the fact that there really isn’t much presence in terms of Final Fantasy in Super Smash Bros. While the inclusion of Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 certainly turned a lot of heads and made many fans of the game happy, outside of Cloud, there aren’t any other Final Fantasy characters present in the game.

Given the fact that there’s a whopping total of eight Fire Emblem characters, essentially taking up roughly one tenth of the total roster of playable characters, one might think that such an influential gaming franchise like Final Fantasy would have a greater presence within the game. The lack of additional characters could potentially be due to the fact that Final Fantasy is primarily a Sony-exclusive franchise. Then again, that’s precisely what mods like this are for.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what other mods come from the community. Until the next DLC fighter included in Fighter Pass Vol. 2 is revealed, Final Fantasy fans will have to keep hoping for another addition to the famous fighter.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
