Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: 10 Reasons Eivor Is The Best Assassin In The Series

There’s no chance of the assassins seen so far in the Assassin’s Creed series to not be compared to one another. And yet, it’s become rather played out to directly line them up against each other. A better way to go about analyzing them would be to check out the strengths of a particular protagonist.

Eivor is the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and is a worthy addition to the list of main characters. It’s been confirmed that Eivor is canonically female, so we’ll be looking at her within this context. Despite her not being an assassin — as the brotherhood didn’t exist at the time — the term has been used to sum up the qualities of a main hero.

10 She Moved On After Gaining Revenge

Eivor’s initial arc had been set up as a revenge story where she went after Kjotve, the man who killed her parents. While games similar to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla might have run with this plot, Eivor was instead shown accepting that life goes on once she got her revenge.

Other assassins like Connor and Ezio were consumed by their rage, to the point where the anger weighed them down. Eivor, however, embraced the closure she received and moved on from the vengeance that had been at her side since youth.

9 Her Bond With Sigurd Was True

It’s been a very recurring mistake in the Assassin’s Creed series to turn allies into enemies even though the set-up hadn’t needed such a twist. That wasn’t the case with Eivor and Sigurd, with the former standing by her brother even at times of crisis.

This enabled her to have a lifelong bond with another person, something that eluded almost every other main character due to conflicts with their own people. Eivor did clash with Sigurd, but the two came out as a stronger duo out of it.

8 Her Combination Of Skill And Brutality

More often than not, assassins are shown to possess a particular style of fighting. While there’s no doubt that a lot of gameplay mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla were weak, Eivor displayed zero problems with performance in-universe.

She blended a style of quickness with that of brutality, allowing her to have the perfect mix of skills that could be switched based on the person she fought. Certain assassins are linked to either a hard-hitting style or silent deadliness, but Eivor can be associated with both.

7 Her Headstrong Nature

Much like the case was choosing between Kassandra and Alexios, Eivor works better as a female character since she doesn’t come across a generic personality. She was definitely not sensitive by nature, but her outspoken ways were due to her headstrong characteristics.

Rather than be swayed the way Sigurd and Basim were, Eivor kept her rational mind and was able to reconcile her present life with that of her past life as Odin. She wasn’t known for outbursts like her brethren in the Raven clan either, stemming from the control she had on her emotions.

6 Being The Reincarnation Of Odin

The reveal of Eivor as the reincarnation of Odin changed the way fans will see the series. It goes without saying that being the next life of the greatest Nordic god means that Eivor has inherent abilities of her own. This was best seen through her use of the Odin sight.

None of the other assassins seen thus far have had the benefit of such an ancestry, making Eivor a link between humans and the Isu. While protagonists like Bayek and Kassandra fought legendary beings, Eivor was one herself.

5 The Quickness Of Her Learning Ability

A recurring aspect of the gameplay in the Assassin’s Creed series has been sequences where one has to learn new abilities. These are generally dragged out for several missions in order to illustrate the time it takes for the protagonists to pick up on these skills.

In the case of Eivor, she ended up being a natural as she had no problems accustoming herself to the ways of the Hidden Ones. It didn’t take her longer than a single lesson to learn both the leap of faith and mastering the use of the hidden blade, even switching up its use in innovative fashion.

4 Understanding Free Will

Even the best assassins in the likes of Ezio and Desmond were unable to truly understand free will. Desmond’s tapes confirmed that he felt assassins weren’t really given a choice of how to live their lives, something he claimed he felt in Ezio when in the Animus.

Eivor’s decisions were all her own, as she chose to do what she wanted and not by what the Hidden Ones or any other person tried to dictate to her. Even when impossible choices were to be made, Eivor went with what she felt right, and that in itself shows how free will was always in her hands.

3 Her Mastery At Conducting Raids

For the most part, the assassins in the series have been shown with a defensive mentality rather than an attacking one. Eivor is different in this regard, most evident through her mastery at conducting raids. These were in such a way that Eivor brought riches and resources to her clan.

The raids also contributed to her excellent tactical prowess, as she came up with strategies that ensured none of her allies would fall. Her aggressive stance was such that it overcame any need for the defensive approach.

2 She’s Adept At Leading And Following

When first introduced, Eivor was shown following her brother into battle and the new lands they explored. She was content in doing so as well, having no issues such as power grabs or petty squabbles by questioning about the plans.

She turned out to be just as adept a leader as well, with Eivor being chosen by Sigurd himself to lead the Raven clan by the end of the story. She took on this role with the same spirit as she had when she had been part of the team, attesting to Eivor’s ability to fit in whatever role was required of her.

1 Being A Trailblazer At Creating Settlements

The concept of settlements has been present in the Assassin’s Creed series for a while. Chronologically, though, Eivor was the first one to it, having set up a new home for her people right from scratch in a completely different land.

Rather than have the benefit of assassin bureaus and resources like other characters, Eivor’s efforts were all her own doing. While she did gather this knowledge from Hytham, she was responsible for putting everything together and making the clan as large as it became.
