November is a special month in Pokemon GO for a lot of reasons, including the announcement of GO Beyond, but one of those reasons is that there are two Community Day events. The Electabuzz event has already come and gone, but today brings the Fire-type Magmar into the spotlight.
Magmar is a popular Gen 1 Fire-type who has a powerful evolution that requires a Sinnoh Stone to evolve in Pokemon GO. That means that today’s Community Day event will be bringing some special opportunities to earn the evolution triggering item, so that players can easily evolve Magmar and earn their exclusive Community Day move when the event comes to a close.
In addition to earning the exclusive move, Thunderbolt, players will also be on the hunt for shiny Magmar today. Anytime a new shiny is added to the game the collectors and completionists usually show up in full force to get one step closer to that elusive shinydex personal goal that so many players have.

Saturday, November 21, 2020
11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time
Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we’re back to one time at this point though.
Evolve Magmar to get the attack Thunderbolt.
Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.
1/4 Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event.
Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.
Magby will be hatching from 2 km Eggs.
Earn Sinnoh Stones and other items by completing Timed Research Tasks
Magmar will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!
Evolve Magmar during the event or up to two hours afterward to get an Magmortar that knows Thunderbolt.
Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Magmar Community Day Box available for 1,280 PokéCoins, featuring an Elite Charged TM, 3x Super Incubators, 3x Incense and 30x Ultra Balls.
Event-exclusive Timed Research and Field Research tasks will be available! By completing Timed Research tasks, you’ll be able to earn Sinnoh Stones and other items.
For US$1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Magmar Community Day–exclusive Special Research story, No Match for Magmar.
Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.
Catch 3 Magmar
x5 Great Ball
x1 Golden Razz Berry
x2 Ultra Ball
x2 Pinap Berry
Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Magmar while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.
That’s everything we know at this point! Magmar is a very popular Pokemon (and an even more popular shiny) and is likely to give trainers a good reason to take a break the usual daily activities and dive head first into some event tasks. Once the new event arrives in later November, the festivities should give trainers a good reason to continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
