Spider-Man Remastered Saves Need to be Exported From PS4 to PS5

Any PS4 owners who have been wanting to continue playing Spider-Man on the PS5 without having to start all over again can now do so in Spider-Man Remastered. Earlier in the month, Insomniac Games confirmed that the ability to transfer saves from the PS4 to the PS5 will be added to the game, and today that feature is finally available.

The update, which was pushed out overnight for the PS4 version, backtracks on Insomniac’s initial decision to omit a save-transfer option for Spider-Man Remastered, a decision that upset many players. Now that the new update is out, though, they are free to carry their progression and suits into the next-gen version and no longer have to worry about grinding through the game to get all their stuff back.

That said, players might not know exactly how to transfer their older saves to the new version, going off of Insomniac’s announcement alone. Luckily, community director James Stevenson provided some clarification in regards to that. When asked about it, he made it clear that players have to export their Spider-Man save data from the PS4 version. It won’t work if they try to do it from the PS5, even if they’ve already have the PS4 save file on there.

Outside of the save-transfer feature, today’s update adds a few new suits to the game, including one based on the Amazing Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man Remastered has also received several fixes, with Insomniac making particular mention of a fix for the issue that was causing the game to crash while in Rest Mode. However, it’s still unclear if the wider issues with the PS5’s Rest Mode that have been reported have been addressed yet, so Spider-Man players might want to continue holding off on using it for a little bit longer, just in case.

The fixes that Insomniac has provided are definitely a step in the right direction, but chances are it won’t address every complaint fans have had about the remaster. As of this writing, Spider-Man Remastered remains exclusive to the Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and it’s not clear if there’s any plans for a standalone release. What’s more, for all of the impressive next-gen enhancements that Insomniac has brought to the game, a lot of players just aren’t fans of Peter Parker’s next-gen face.

Issues aside, the Remastered game and Miles Morales have both been bright spots for the PS5’s launch, and in all likelihood most fans of Insomniac are looking forward to the studio’s next offerings for the console, including Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and the rumored Spider-Man sequel on PS5.

Spider-Man Remastered is available for PS5.
