PS5 Physical Disc Install Glitch Is Causing Major Download Delays

The launch of the PS5 has led to a great deal of excitement within the gaming community. Although, as is the case with most new technology, the PS5 has also seen its fair share of technical issues that a number of users have experienced. One of the more impactful issues the PS5 is currently suffering from is an issue with game installations off of physical discs.

Most consoles tend to have a number of technical problems at launch and the PS5 is no exception to this. While some of these issues have been addressed or developers are currently working to patch the console, one user has experienced an unfortunate glitch that forces the user to delete the game file and start over.

Twitter user Lance McDonald encountered an issue while downloading the special edition of Devil May Cry 5, and using a physical disc. When installing the game file, if an update is available, the PS5 will silently download the update while downloading the game, causing the game to download at a much slower rate. However, that’s not the only issue this has caused.

McDonald reported that his internet connection dropped and when this happened, the installation stopped midway and could not continue. This required McDonald to eject the disc, re-insert the disc and start the download process all over again. While Sony has already provided a firmware update for the PS5, it seems unclear when this issue, along with various others, will be fixed.

For how well the PS5 has done financially, outselling the Xbox Series X/S by 5x in Japan, it has also suffered from a great deal of technical problems. Though, surely Sony must have anticipated the console having its fair share of bugs and glitches at launch. Hopefully, the company will respond promptly and have a patch released very soon.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds in terms of the PS5. While all of these issues continue to get reported, it allows Sony’s developers time to get an idea of what to look for and what to fix in terms of a future software update. Though, sadly there isn’t any news of when the community of PS5 users can expect to see any kind of update. Then again, there’s no new news regarding the SSD upgrade for the PS5 either, so for now, all fans can do is wait to hear from the company itself.
