Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s A Rivalry for the Ages quest sends players to retrieve a statue from a man named Maximilian in Lunden. This NPC will not simply hand over the sculpture, though, and fans will need to use their charisma or money to take possession of it. Alternatively, players can opt to steal the statute if that is their preference, and this guide will provide details on how to distract Maximilian and take the key to his house in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Before going into this approach to the A Rivalry for the Ages quest, it is worth mentioning that many players are reportedly encountering a glitch that causes the key to Maximilian’s house to not appear. At the time of writing there is no apparent workaround to the no key bug, and fans may thus need to abandon this AC Valhalla side quest until a future patch corrects the issue. Alternatively, players that have the option to reload their games and try one of the other approaches to the quest may want to do just that.
With that established, after Eivor speaks with Maximilian and tells him that they will “be back for it,” fans should head to the corner just southeast of the NPC. Here players will find two Norse Children, and they will be willing to distract Maximilian for a small fee. When that transaction has occurred, AC Valhalla fans should simply lead the children to Maximilian and wait for them to work their magic.
As soon as the man has abandoned his post, players will be able to take the door key from the small table that the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla NPC was previously standing in front of. Again, this is where some fans are encountering problems with the A Rivalry for the Ages quest, and indeed it is possible that no key will appear at this location. For those players that do find Maximilian’s House Door Key, though, it can be used to unlock the door that is just behind the table.
Once a fan has entered the house and procured the Roman Legionnaire statue, they will then be ready to take it back to Octavian. This will mark the end of the A Rivalry for the Ages side quest, and players will receive some XP and skill points in AC Valhalla for their troubles. While these rewards may feel slightly underwhelming to those fans that had to work their way through the no key glitch, they at least mean that completing this quest is far from mandatory.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
