There’s a lot of anticipation around Deathloop, if only to find out a bit more about it. While a lot has been revealed about the game, it’s clear that the only way to tell for sure how good it is will be to play it, as with any game. With the Deathloop‘s release date officially announced, players must chew on their anticipation a while longer.
There are definite signs of ambition in Deathloop, which is a good sign for a mind-bending FPS. The various abilities look fun to use, the idea of time-looping assassinations lends itself to different gameplay ideas, and the story might be good. News is out now about a feature in Deathloop that utilizes the PS5’s DualSense controller, and it points to even more ambition in strange places.
Deathloop is going to utilize the DualSense in a few different ways, some standard, some not. Rumbling as a player climbs a wall could be expected. The controller uttering a faint beep to warn of a proximity mine is something else entirely. But the real make or break for Deathloop‘s DualSense use will be the guns. Apparently, not only will the guns feel different, but the controller’s triggers will physically mimic them jamming.
This is certainly an interesting way to use the PS5’s features in Deathloop, and one that other games may not consider. The reason is obvious: whereas many devs are thinking about how the DualSense can give the player more, Deathloop will have it hinder them. The idea that guns can jam at all is already a little surprising. There will be on-screen indications of a jammed gun as well, but the player also won’t be able to fully press the trigger. How to get it unstuck is not completely clear, but it probably doesn’t involve hitting the expensive controller like the protagonist hits his gun.
The idea of realistic guns is certainly a fun one, although realistic jamming may take things a bit too far. Still, with what’s been shown off concerning the powers Deathloop players have, it’s clear guns aren’t the only way to deal death. How the gadgets and supernatural elements feel through Dualsense is unknown as of this article.
While it is a drawback for the player, having the guns feel realistic will definitely help people find a favorite. And with more intricate, detailed feels than Godfall‘s weapon feedback (hopefully), it could prove to be one of the best features of the game.
Deathloop releases May 21, 2021, for PC and PS5.
