10 Small Details In The Story Of Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Bungie will always be remembered for creating Halobut for the last decade, the developer has put all of its focus on the Destiny franchise. It is true that both Destiny and Destiny 2 had rough starts, but the series’ gunplay, mechanics, and lore have allowed it to grow and maintain a dedicated fanbase, which is why it is currently one of the most popular FPS MMOs around.

Beyond Light is the franchise’s latest expansion, and it focuses on a group of Fallen who have acquired the power of Stasis from the Darkness, and it reintroduces the Exo Stranger who wants The Guardian to use the power to defend humanity. Like every other expansion, Beyond Light has its fair share of hidden details, but there are also some small story developments that players might miss if they are not paying attention.

10 The Exos Were Born From Darkness

Exos are humanoid frames that contain real human minds and they were built in the Deep Stone Crypt on Europa by Clovis Bray I, a scientist who was actually trying to find the key to immortality. He found that key thanks to the Darkness, as the cosmic entity spoke to him in a dream. Consequently, Clovis led an expedition to Europa, which is where he found a Darkness artifact.

The Darkness later told Clovis to build a Vex gate, which he did by kidnapping a Vex from Venus. It was here that Vex entered our solar system in force. By studying the Vex milk, Clovis discovered that raw radiolarian fluid solved the loop/billboard/crash issue which caused Exo minds to deteriorate.

9 Ana Is Re-Building Rasputin

Ana Bray is one of the strongest Guardians alive and based on everything she has done since Warmind, she is one of the smartest Guardians too, as she was able to re-activate Rasputin. She and Rasputin have been working to defend the Last City and humanity from extraterrestrial threats ever since.

When the Darkness entered the system in Season of Arrivals, Rasputin attacked it, and when the Darkness retaliated, it more or less destroyed the ancient AI. With our Guardian’s help, Ana discovered that a small part of Rasputin’s mind still lived, and she is now building him an Exo body of his own.

8 The Stranger Was Forced To Kill Her Sister

The Exo Stranger made her debut in the original game back in 2014, but her true identity remained a mystery for several years. Thanks to the Warmind expansion, fans learned that the Stranger was actually Elizabeth Bray, the granddaughter of Clovis Bray I, and Ana Bray’s older sister.

In Beyond Light, the Stranger confirmed her identity, but fans also learned that she is from a different timeline – one where the Darkness won. In her timeline, Ana became corrupted by the Darkness, and it left Elizabeth with no other choice but to put her sister down for good.

7 Clovis Destroyed His Son

Clovis Bray I may have been a genius, but most of his family loathed him, and for good reason. He wanted to literally turn his son into a flawless image of himself, which is why he genetically altered his son by removing his maternal genes and replacing them with his own.

Clovis also made it so that his son no longer needed sleep, but this led to his son developing a fatal neurodegenerative disorder called the “Clovis Curse.” Clovis tried to save him by placing his mind in an Exo, but the degeneration was so severe that his son tore his new body apart.

6 The Traveler Leaves People Behind

When the Darkness first came to our solar system, the Traveler tried to run away, but it was stopped by Rasputin. Thanks to Variks and Eramis, fans learned that the Traveler once visited The Fallen’s homeworld, and it gave the Fallen their own version of the Golden Age.

The Fallen’s version of The Collapse is known as “The Whirlwind,” and it happened when Oryx, the Taken King, attacked with his Hive army. Oryx’s target was The Traveler, but the Great Machine took off during the attack, and it didn’t even try to send out Ghosts to help the Fallen.

5 Xivu Arath Is Trying To Consolidate Power

The Guardian has decimated much of the Hive’s royal family, but there are still a few of them out there. Xivu Arath is Oryx’s sister and serves as the Hive’s God of War, and she is currently trying to take command of the entire Hive army.

Season of the Hunt has the Guardian teaming up with a resurrected Uldren Sov to thwart Xivu Arath’s plans. The only reason Xivu Arath is making her move now is because her sister, Savathûn, has disappeared without a trace.

4 Osiris & Saint 14 May Be More Than Friends

The Season of Dawn saw the return of Saint-14, a legendary Guardian who is considered to be the greatest Titan who has ever lived. Saint was great friends with Osiris, a warlock of equal fame, and he built a sundial on Mercury to save Saint-who died in the Infinite Forest while searching for Osiris.

The pair may be more than good friends though, as Saint has been hiding poems for Osiris to find for some time now, and when his Ghost admits that she has already read the latest poem, he gets upset that she kept it from him. Osiris nearly died his final death at the beginning of the current season, and the only thing he wanted players to do was to tell Saint how he felt.

3 Banshee-44’s True Identity

Destiny 2 has introduced plenty of new vendors over the years, but there are few who have been part of the series since the very beginning. Banshee-44 has been the Tower’s gunsmith for years, and as his name suggests, he is an Exo who has been rebooted 43 times.

Banshee has always had memory problems, but he always knew that he came from the Deep Stone Crypt and that other Exos gave him the nickname Banshee. If players complete The Lament Exotic sword quest, they will learn that Banshee is actually Clovis Bray I, but he has since become a different person with his own life and memories.

2 Callus’ Daughter Has Been Active

Callus appeared at the end of Destiny 2’s Red War campaign, where players fought a robotic version of him on the Leviathan. Callus has had an interest in our Guardian since Ghaul’s defeat, and as the former Cabal Emperor, he is a pretty interesting character.

Callus was overthrown by a group of conspirators who believed that the Empire had grown weak, and his daughter Caiatl was part of that coup. Thanks to Osiris’ investigations, it has been revealed that Caiatl is trying to bring the remnants of the Red Legion back to the Empire, but she is now investigating the Hive Cryptoliths that are corrupting them.

1 Mara Sov Is Returning

Mara Sov is the Queen of the Awoken, and although she hasn’t done much since The Taken King expansion, she is still a major character in the story. Players learned that Mara was still alive back in Forsaken, but she disappeared after a few weeks, and the community hasn’t heard from her until now.

One of the transmissions in Zavala’s office is from Mara, and in this message, she apologizes to Petra for leaving her to deal with the curse in the Dreaming City alone. She also mentioned that Savathûn is on the move and that she will be returning to fight against The Witch Queen.
