Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the latest expansion of Bungie’s MMO-FPS, is entering its third week out in the wild. It has been a busy time for the community as it rushed to experienced the new story, discover the secrets of Europa, and master the seasonal activities. As with every expansion, Beyond Light also released with a new raid, which unlocked new exotic weapons for raiders and non-raiders alike. One such weapon, The Lament, is hot in the news as it raw power is overwhelming any combatant. Moreover, a bug allows the wielder to deal full damage without ammo.
The Lament is the latest new exotic sword to be added to Destiny 2. Last season, a sword called Falling Guillotine stole the spotlight for not only the best sword but the best heavy weapon in the game. The best part was that it was a legendary weapon with exotic-level capabilities. With The Lament also boasting a similar style of play and packing just as big of a punch, the heavy sword category is seeing some competition.
What the Falling Guillotine doesn’t have on its side at the moment is a bug that allows it to function without ammo. Destiny‘s swords are a bit quirky since they need ammo as well as energy to fully be playable. What r/raidsecrets user, Astrological_X, has discovered is that despite the sword being depleted, The Lament can still deal full damage if the player presses the heavy attack button. This only works while in-air, but that isn’t a big problem since players can do a short hop before attacking very easily. In fact, in-air attacking was such a viable strategy back in the day that Bungie reworked how they’d function to encourage more feet on the ground gameplay.
This simple trick with The Lament comes at no cost to utilize, making it a likely target for Bungie to address as soon as possible. The effect of bugs on PvP is usually a big reason why certain exotics get banned or why playlists like Trials get delayed. Currently, The Lament can effortlessly shred through a Titan inside a Ward of Dawn bubble without ammo. This trick also trivializes open-world encounters such as the Fallen Brigs on Europa. These are formidable enemies free-roaming on the moon, and often drop Europa-specific loot, making them a great mini-activity to farm.
This exotic sword normally requires a person to guard first to enhance the heavy attack, however, players cannot guard sans ammo. Nonetheless, the empty sword still does close to its empowered damage thanks to this bug. While Taken mods have been removed from Gambit for their potency, this bug has the potential to plague the gamemode for a short while. Lastly, players have reported that it works on PC as well as console.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
