Concept Shows What PlayStation VR 2 Might Look Like on PS5

While the next iteration of PSVR will surely not be coming to the PlayStation 5 for some time, a patent has leaked providing a look at the updated headset. In response, one video game channel made a mockup of the design, showing off just how different PSVR 2 will look on the PS5.

The patent itself focused primarily on detailing a new haptic feedback system for the PSVR 2. While a VR headset that allows players to feel sensations in a similar way to the DualSense controller is certainly interesting, one other part of the patent that is particularly eye-catching is the hypothetical headset design. The PSVR 2 looks quite different from the original, regardless of which of the potential looks is being examined.

While Sony’s CEO believes the future of VR is still far off, the company seems to have started working on making that future a reality. One of the two looks for PSVR 2 seen in the patent’s concept is not a headset at all, as it is instead a pair of Virtual Reality glasses. While it is unclear if these glasses would function any differently from a full PSVR headset, their release would certainly be an interesting step for VR technology.

The PSVR glasses concept was not the only design shared, however, as the PSVR 2 could still be taking the form of a traditional headset. While players have been obtaining PSVR adaptors for their PS5 consoles, Sony may be hard at work on their latest iteration of the VR technology if this patent is to be believed. The other design shared via the patent is a traditional headset look, though it is far less bulky that the first PSVR. The much more compact PSVR 2 headsets certainly look comfier, and it seems like a more logical leap to make than the glasses.

With the patent leaking the PSVR 2 concept to the public, one talented gamer was quick to make a mockup of the leaked design. The fan-made concept for PlayStation VR 2 shows a headset resembling Widowmaker’s goggles from Overwatch, with three black areas on the front faceplate and a Sony logo. The headset continues the white theme seen with the PlayStation 5, and can be seen alongside two new PSVR controllers. How accurate this concept is remains to be seen, but PSVR 2 could be looking quite different whenever it arrives.

With the PS5 camera not compatible with the current PSVR unless an adaptor is used, it will be interesting to see if it works with PSVR 2 from the start or if some other piece of tech is required. Regardless, players should expect the PSVR 2 to look quite different, regardless of whether it takes the form of a new headset or a pair of glasses.

The PlayStation 5 is available now.
