Pokemon GO Has Two Field Research Breakthrough Rewards for December 2020

2020 is nearly drawing to a close, and Niantic is going to make sure that Pokemon GO ends the year in style. The company has announced a slew of events for Pokemon GO enthusiasts to look forward to in December 2020, including new Field Research breakthrough encounters.

By completing a Field Research task each day for seven days, Pokemon GO fans can unlock a Field Research breakthrough reward. These rewards include a variety of items that will help players out on their Pokemon GO adventures, headlined by a Pokemon encounter. From December 1 at 1:00pm PST to January 1, 2021 at 1:00pm PST, Pokemon GO players will be able to encounter either Lapras or Darumaka as a Field Research breakthrough reward, getting bonus XP for their troubles.

Lapras is one of the rarer Gen 1 Pokemon in Pokemon GO, so December may provide fans of the game an opportunity to more fully-complete their Kanto region Pokedex if they haven’t done so already. Darumaka, meanwhile, is not quite as rare, but some Pokemon GO fans may still have yet to add it to their collection. It should be noted that the version of Darumaka coming to Pokemon GO Field Research breakthrough rewards in December is the original, fire-type Unovan version of the creature, not the ice-type Galarian Darumaka.

While Pokemon GO players prepare themselves for the December 2020 Field Research breakthrough rewards, there is still some time to collect the November 2020 Field Research breakthrough as well. The Pokemon GO November 2020 Field Research breakthrough reward is Togetic, and so any trainers that have yet to catch one will want to make it a point to do so before the month is over.

There’s a lot more for Pokemon GO fans to look forward to in December besides new Field Research breakthrough rewards. Pokemon GO fans can enjoy double catch XP throughout the month of December, plus there will be Pokemon Spotlight Hours every week from December 1 to December 31. Not only that, but Pokemon GO players can look forward to Kyurem returning to raids, alongside Mega Abomasnow. Like the Field Research breakthrough rewards, the new Pokemon GO raid bosses for December 2020 will come to the game on December 1 at 1:00pm PST, but until then, fans can still try catching Mega Blastoise in raids.

With new raid bosses, Field Research breakthrough rewards, and more, Niantic is clearly trying to end Pokemon GO‘s record-breaking 2020 with a bang. Fans can also look forward to Pokemon GO‘s level cap increasing to 50, which should give even the most-dedicated players of the game much more to do going into 2021.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
