Watch Dogs: Legion Multiplayer Mode Release Date Delayed

On top of all of the content that Watch Dogs: Legion offers in its single-player base game, Ubisoft was going to add online co-op in a free update that was set to go live next week. That won’t be the case anymore, unfortunately because Ubisoft has delayed Watch Dogs: Legion’s online content.

A new post on the game’s website confirms that the online mode, which was originally set to launch on December 3, is now slated to come out sometime in early 2021. The reason being is that plenty of bugs and other technical problems have been found in Legion’s single-player game, and Ubisoft wants to address as many of those as it can first before throwing online content into the mix. Although this will be disappointing news for a lot of players, Ubisoft notes that the delay will also give it extra time to “test the Online experience to help ensure a smooth launch of the mode.”

In the meantime, Ubisoft is about to release the first round of fixes. This week will see Update 2.20 being deployed to all platforms, which will address a number of general and platform-specific issues, as well as introduce a manual save button to the PC version. Most importantly, the update will fix issues that have corrupted save files for Watch Dogs: Legion, caused load times to increase, and erased progress during certain missions.

There are still a few serious issues that will need to be addressed, like bugs preventing some Xbox players from being able to save their games, but Ubisoft should be getting to them before long. The company stated that it will have additional fixes and other quality-of-life upgrades in store for next month, including more stability improvements and further PC optimizations to help maintain a consistent 60fps on higher graphics settings. “The dev team is committed to fixing these issues and will not stop until everyone can experience the game as intended,” it wrote.

Going back to the online mode, when it finally does arrive, it will let up to four players team up and roam around Legion’s virtual London, as well as take part in new Tactical Ops missions that will put their teamwork and hacking skills to the test. That won’t be the only multiplayer mode included, as the update will also introduce Spiderbot Arena, a deathmatch mode where players will be able to fight each other with weaponized drones. Beyond these, Ubisoft will release even more multiplayer content, including the Invasion mode from previous games, which will let players jump into other players’ worlds and try to hack them without getting caught.

Watch Dogs: Legion is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
