Niantic’s AR mobile game Pokemon GO will be kicking off its Season of Celebration on December 1. The first batch of monsters from Generation 6’s Kalos Region will be added into Pokemon GO as part of this celebration, and according to dataminers there are already a number of Pokemon X and Y representatives waiting in the game’s code.
Seven evolutionary lines were confirmed to be coming to the game starting December 2 in a news release posted by Niantic on November 18: The Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Bunnelby, Fletchling, and Litleo lines, as well as Klefki exclusively in France – where the Kalos Region was based. However, dedicated Pokemon GO datamining group PokeMiners has posted a number of findings to various social media channels over the last few days, including assets for the Espurr and Noibat lines. Scatterbug is also present, but not its evolutions Spewpa or Vivillon.
Another big inclusion in the PokeMiners leak are the stats for Mega Abomasnow, though the dataminers have also reported on different badges, vague item placeholders, and more appearing in Pokemon GO‘s code as it prepares to introduce Kalos. Pokemon GO confirmed Mega Abomasnow will appear in raid battles starting December 1, which is fitting given the Mega Evolution mechanic was introduced in Pokemon X and Y despite having begun to appear in the mobile game a few months ago.
As reputable as these leaks may appear, it’s worth taking anything of this nature with a grain of salt. As PokeMiners points out, datamined information is subject to change or be removed altogether, and the ever-changing nature of Pokemon GO in particular means it is hard to determine when Niantic may be adding any new content until official announcements are made.
That being said, while the possible inclusion of Scatterbug, Noivern, and Meowstic are still nebulous, the others – including Pokemon X and Y‘s starter Pokemon – are confirmed to be arriving soon. Niantic has also announced Pokemon GO Field Research rewards for December 2020, and the upcoming “GO Beyond” update will feature a number of changes including a trainer level cap increase.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Niantic shifted Pokemon GO‘s business model to facilitate fans playing from home, and the result has been successful. According to some reports, Pokemon GO had its most profitable year in 2020, more than its debut in 2016. As a result, additions such as Kalos Pokemon will undoubtedly continue to grace its users’ phone screens for a long time to come.
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS devices.
