Last June, Capcom revealed Resident Evil 8, the upcoming installment to the long-time survival horror franchise. At the moment, specific details about Resident Evil 8’s story are still being kept under wraps. Still, Capcom is slowly revealing tidbits of information with all the preview trailers it has revealed so far.
Although no specific release date has been announced yet, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 8 would release sometime in 2021, so players should expect more info on the game in the coming months. Currently, Resident Evil 8 has two trailers, and two developer specials, giving players a glimpse of what to expect on the upcoming game. For those who may have missed any of the footage revealed so far, here is a roundup of every trailer Capcom has released for Resident Evil 8.
When Capcom released Resident Evil 8’s debut trailer at Sony’s PlayStation 5 event, it confirmed rumors that the upcoming game will be played from a first-person perspective, similar to the approach the studio used in Resident Evil 7. Additionally, the debut trailer confirmed that Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield would be making a return in Resident Evil 8, though the depth of both characters’ involvement remains a mystery.
The most interesting part shown in the debut trailer is a line of text saying, “His story comes to a close,” which heavily suggests that Resident Evil 8 could be the final game for either Ethan or Chris. Towards the end of the trailer, Chris Redfield is shown shooting someone point blank, painting him as a possible villain in the game, which surprised players given that Chris is one of the main protagonists of the Resident Evil franchise ever since the first game.
Shortly after Capcom released Resident Evil 8’s debut trailer, the studio also shared a special developer message from the creators of the upcoming game. This special preview of Resident Evil 8 touched upon some exciting details about its gameplay that were not shown in the first preview. In the video, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 8 would pick up after the events of Resident Evil 7 and will revolve around the life of Ethan and Mia Winters after the Baker Mansion Incident. Additionally, Capcom revealed that Resident Evil 8 would feature next-generation technology, given that the game will release to the PS5 and Xbox Series X alongside the PC.
Last September, Capcom released the second trailer for Resident Evil 8, showing creepier footage alongside shots of the game’s village location and some of the enemies that players will encounter. While the second trailer did not reveal anything by way of gameplay, it gave players a glimpse of the game’s overall feel and focused on additional characters and some story details that players should expect once Resident Evil 8 releases. The trailer opens from the perspective of Ethan Winters as he was taken away by masked men on the orders of Chris Redfield, which further supports the theory that he could be Resident Evil 8’s villain.
As for the most current preview of Resident Evil 8, Capcom shared a developer insights feature, which focuses on the making of the upcoming game. The developer insights video featured Resident Evil 8 director Morimasa Sato, art director Tomonori Takano, and producer Peter Fabiano. The trio discussed the concept of fear that is the essence of Resident Evil 8. Sato also revealed that he views the Resident Evil franchise as a horror movie with the player in the starring role and how Resident Evil 8 will contain all the traditional elements of a horror film, complete with zombies, witches, and werewolves, set in a small European village.
Resident Evil 8 launches in 2021 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
