Japan’s Super Nintendo World finally set to open in February 2021

Japan’s Super Nintendo World theme park will officially open its doors to the paying public on February 4, 2021.

That grand opening date for the theme park was announced this morning as Super Nintendo World’s team showed off the first official images of the part, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the Mario Kart and Bowser’s Castle attractions.

According to IGN Japan, Bowser’s Castle will feature a massive statue of the infamous kidnapper and the area based on his lair will feature a ton of details related to the long-time Mario villain.

The press even also showed off Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, a ride that uses augmented reality headsets to replicate the feel of Mario Kart on consoles.

The park was initially supposed to open alongside the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but these plans were scrapped thanks to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.

There were originally plans to bring similar theme parks to Hollywood, Orlando, and Singapore, but the pandemic has cast doubt on whether these projects will be completed.

Construction in the Orlando expansion was halted indefinitely due to the pandemic, and there’s currently no word on when it’ll be resumed.

While we wait to hear more about the future of Universal Studios’ plans outside of Japan, you can enjoy a quick tour of the first park, courtesy of Bloomberg below.
