World of Warcraft: Shadowlands – How to Get the Harvester of Sorrow Achievement

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been out for over a week and reception has been positive with players enjoying both zone and covenant storylines. But throughout their adventures, characters can stumble upon treasures that give various rewards. One of these rare cases is another popular reference to Excalibur, and players will need to prove their strength to earn the Harvester of Sorrow achievement for pulling this sword.

In addition to the achievement, melee strength classes also get a usable 2-handed weapon at ilvl 180. Nearly rivaling the power of mythic dungeon weapons, characters that obtain this sword will be set for DPSing once Castle Nathria in Revendreth opens on December 8th. However, getting the blade won’t be as simple as killing a named mob and involves multiple steps.

The Sorrowbane sword is buried deep in the Theater of Pain’s ground at coordinates 51, 48 for players using the TomTom addon. However, attempting to interact with the item normally will fail. Instead, a character must have 4 buffs from the Shadowlands before they can pull the weapon free.

  • 2x Battle Hardened
  • 4x Edible Redcaps
  • Potion of Unusual Strength
  • Strength of Blood

Before leaving to grab the buffs, players should purchase a Scroll of Teleport: Theater of Pain from One-Eyed Joby at 53, 41 and set their Hearthstone to the Renounced Bastille.

This buff can only be obtained when the world quest “A Few Bumps Along the Way” is up. Drag mobs over to the circle surrounding ballistae and kill them to fill the progression bar. Normally players have one chance every time the world quest is up, but those in a raid group can still get the buff without completing it. This means anyone can try over and over if they mess up the other steps or the buff times out after 10 minutes. Note the quest is currently up until tomorrow morning on NA/EU servers.

The Edible Redcap mushrooms are located at Glutharn’s Decay in the mid-East portion of Maldraxxus. Players should keep moving around until they find and consume 4 mushrooms, but the World of Warcraft buff falls off after 2 minutes and multiple people in the area will almost guarantee that happens. If there’s too much competition consider realm-hopping by joining world quest groups in Maldraxxus, but watch out for the occasional Deadly Dapperling rare spawn in the area.

Players will need to buy this potion from Au’larrynar on the Theater of Pain’s eastern side. Note that the NPC only becomes a vendor after completing a few starter quests in that area.

The last potion buff is bought from Ta’tru in the Revendreth Night Market. However, it isn’t available for gold and must be exchanged using certain materials. This will vary every week, but the current trade good is desolate leather so go skin some mobs or buy it off the Auction House.

  1. Purchase both the Potion of Unusual Strength and Strength of Blood
  2. Fly to the Spearhead area in Maldraxxus and make a raid group
  3. Kill enough mobs around the Ballistae to fill the progress bar and get 2x Battle Hardened
  4. Hearth back to the Renounced Bastille and run over to Glutharn’s Decay
  5. Eat 4 Edible Redcaps, realm hopping to do so if there are other players in the area.
  6. Use the Scroll of Teleport: Theater of Pain to appear next to Sorrowbane.
  7. Use the Potion of Unusual Strength and Strength of Blood to remove Oonar’s Arm and Sorrowbane
