December has arrived and Pokemon GO players have a ton of big changes to enjoy. The GO Beyond update is here and players around the world are able to chase down the new level cap and enjoy the Season of Celebration. In addition to those perks, there are some exciting new Battle Raid bosses to challenge and encounter, as well.
Mega Abomasnow raids are getting the majority of the attention, since they bring a brand new Mega Evolution to the game, but don’t overlook the return of Kyurem to 5-star raids. The Dragon- and Ice-type Legendary is an incredibly powerful Pokemon in the current Pokemon GO metagame and players could always use another copy for their collection.
Kyurem is a Dragon- and Ice-type, which means that its primary weaknesses are going to be Dragon-, Steel-, Fighting-, and Fairy-. A few of the best Kyurem counters have been popular choices for previous Raid Bosses, so hopefully players already have a fairly powerful team assembled. If not, be sure to take advantage of Elite TMs and lots of Candy and Stardust to power up a strong roster before entering this Legendary Raid Battle.
Shadow Metagross – Bullet Punch/Meteor Mash
Lucario – Counter/Aura Sphere
Metagross – Bullet Punch/Meteor Mash
Shadow Machamp – Counter/Dynamic Punch
Shadow Dragonite – Dragon Tail/Dragon Claw
Shadow Gardevoir – Charm/Dazzling Gleam
Shadow Tyranitar – Smack Down/Stone Edge
Conkeldurr – Counter/Dynamic Punch
Dialga – Metal Claw/Draco Meteor
Shadow Salamence – Dragon Tail/Outrage
Rhyperior – Smack Down/Rocker Wrecker
As always, keep in mind that these recommendations represent the highest tier of counters, but it’s totally possible to take down the raid boss with some other options as long as players are with a decent-sized group of other trainers and sticking to the right counter types. For Kyurem, that means using the Pokemon search tool in the app to look for keywords like Dragon-, Steel-, Fighting-, or Fairy- and using the best options from whatever is available.
Kyurem will be featured in 5-star Battle Raids for a limited time this December, so players should be sure to get their roster ready and face off against it sooner than later if they want to maximize their chances for find a high IV encounter before time is up.
Whichever way one wants to celebrate, Niantic does want to remind fans that these events are still subject to change. Along with that, the company wants to make sure its fans are being aware of their surroundings and still following local guidelines when it comes to outdoor use while playing this game.
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
