Uncharted’s Tom Holland Will Present at The Game Awards

Multiple fandoms can rejoice in news that Geoff Keighley recently dropped on Twitter: Tom Holland will be presenting at The Game Awards this year. Holland’s work on the film adaptation of the Uncharted series has now made him qualified to appear at such an event.

For those unfamiliar, The Game Awards are, as the name would imply, a yearly show devoted to awarding the year’s games with various accolades such as Best Narrative and Best Action. The show is coming up on 6 years old after its first run in 2014. The Game Awards are hosted by the aforementioned Geoff Keighley who is a media and gaming personality who rose to prominence via appearances on such platforms as G4 and Spike TV.

Tom Holland, on the other hand, likely needs no introduction, as he was skyrocketed into the spotlight when he was cast as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Being the third Spider-Man in the span of 14 years inevitably led to comparisons to his predecessors, but most fans quickly warmed to his version of the popular character.  Since then he’s continued to build a name (and a fanbase) for himself on other projects, such as Onward and the upcoming Uncharted film.

Not many details of the Uncharted film have made it to light thus far, but it has been made clear that Tom Holland will be playing the main character of the video game series, Nathan Drake. While Holland seems to be playing a younger version of the character, one would reasonably expect the movie to still maintain the elements of treasure hunting that the series is known for.

Tom Holland will likely help bring The Game Awards to a wider audience given his popularity, though he is, at the moment, rather tangentially related to video games. He has no involvement with the Spider-Man games on PlayStation platforms; nor is an Uncharted game nominated for an award this year given that the last one was released in 2017.

Holland has enough of a connection to games and geek culture to make him a fun choice for a presenter at the awards this year. It will also no doubt maintain, if not increase the hype for the Uncharted film. It is even possible that more details surrounding the film could be released at the awards because The Game Awards often serves as a vehicle for video game related reveals, though no Uncharted film specific reveals have been confirmed.

The Game Awards will be airing on December 10th at 6:30pm EST.
