Fortnite Galactus Event Breaks Record | Game Rant

The Fortnite phenomenon is unlikely to come to an end anytime soon, as Epic Games has confirmed that the Galactus event was its biggest ever. With millions of Fortnite fans watching and even more playing, the finale to Season 4 was record-breaking.

While Fortnite Season 5 is bringing back Tilted Towers and continuing the story regarding Agent Jonesy, Season 4 ended with a massive bang. After setting up the arrival of Galactus for months, the world-eater arrived in Fortnite, decimating the helicarrier and starting a fight with the player and some of Marvel’s biggest heroes. Via the use of controllable Battle Bus bombs, Fortnite players joined Iron Man, Thor, and Wolverine to help defeat Galactus and save the Fortnite universe.

The Galactus event was cinematic and clearly worthy of the buildup, as it was far different from the usual style of Fortnite gameplay and brought definitive closure to the game’s Marvel crossover. Following the event, the Fortnite Twitter account shared the raw data from the event, with the Galactus battle confirmed to be the most played and viewed Fortnite finale ever. With 3.4 million gamers watching the event and a massive 15.3 million experiencing it themselves, clearly the Marvel crossover was successful.

With Fortnite’s “biggest event ever” also crashing the servers of the streaming platform Twitch, it will be interesting to see if the constantly evolving battle royale can ever surpass this Marvel crossover. With more Marvel cameos supposedly on the way for Fortnite, though, fans of the superheroes should not be too concerned about the characters disappearing from the Fortnite universe entirely. While the looming threat of Galactus is gone and Fortnite is returning to more of a normal state, Epic Games likely has more plans in place for big events.

As for Season 5, the inclusion of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda in Fortnite should guarantee the success of the next battle pass. While the two characters do not come with the extensive redesign of the map or an overall event, their addition should still satisfy fans. With Fortnite’s latest season seeming to be a transition period for the game, as it focuses purely on bounty hunters causing chaos, fans should have some time to breathe before the next Galactus-level threat comes to the Fortnite universe. No matter what the next event is, though, Epic Games has clearly set a new standard for Fortnite’s in-game events.

With over 15 million participants in the Galactus battle, Fortnite has once again proven that it is one of the biggest games of all time. Hosting everything from Marvel supervillains to successful Travis Scott concerts, what comes next for the game is anyone’s guess.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
