Battlefield 3 Now Free With Amazon Prime | Game Rant

Beginning back in 2002 with Battlefield 1942, the Battlefield franchise has come a long way over the years, transforming into one of the modern era’s most notable multiplayer franchises. Although some of its entries have been more divisive than others, it’s generally regarded as birthing some truly spectacular shooters, including its tongue-in-cheek take on the military FPS in Battlefield: Bad Company and its rendition of the first World War in Battlefield 1.

Of course, among the list of the best Battlefield games is Battlefield 3, which luckily for those who haven’t played it, is currently free for Amazon Prime subscribers. For those who have a subscription to the service, they can redeem themselves an Origin code for the game by going over to the Prime Gaming website and selecting “Games and Loot.”

From there, they’ll have to scroll down until they see Battlefield 3 under the “Games with Prime” section. The deal will be available until December 30, and for those who do manage to redeem their code, they’ll also need to ensure they input it into Origin before January 29 as the key will expire. Unfortunately, the pack doesn’t include any DLC, so those looking to bag the whole Battlefield 3 experience will seemingly have to make some additional purchases.

That being said, it seems unlikely players will be encountering packed lobbies when they jump into Battlefield 3’s online modes, with the game originally releasing all the way back in 2011. The title does have a campaign, however, so those wanting to get their fix of Battlefield’s explosive military action can still do so regardless of whether or not there are other players to battle. The story itself centers around a fictional war in 2014, with the US battling against an Iranian paramilitary group known as the PLR. It spans various locations and sees players jump into the shoes of a variety of protagonists.

As for Battlefield 3 itself, the game is easily one of the most popular releases in the franchise to date, with a strong fanbase behind it and some notable sales figures. The franchise will continue next year, with EA announcing that DICE is working on a follow-up slated for next year that will allegedly be on a “never-before-seen scale.” Considering next year will likely welcome an influx of major titles that take full advantage of the power of the next-generation consoles, it seems Battlefield will be using that to make its biggest game yet. Until then, Battlefield 3 is a pretty solid reminder of why the franchise is one of the biggest in the modern FPS scene.

Battlefield 3 is out now on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
