Cyberpunk 2077 is only about a week away and fans are incredibly excited to get their hands on the game at long last. Anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 has been building for years and years after the game’s numerous delays, making it undoubtedly one of the biggest new game releases for December 2020.
Though, as with nearly every major AAA release today, players won’t be able to hop into Cyberpunk 2077 right when they finish installing the game. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to have a big day one patch on release day, but now players know just how big the day one patch will actually be.
Day one patches are incredibly common with games across every console. Games like Ghost of Tsushima, Borderlands 3, and Marvel’s Avengers all had day one patches before release. Day one patches allow developers to finalize a game right up until its official release, despite the game already going gold and being in players’ hands. Unfortunately, day one patches can be absolutely huge in size, and can end up taking quite a bit of time to actually download.
Naturally, CD Projekt Red has a day one patch in store for Cyberpunk 2077, and it looks to be pretty hefty. Thanks to content creator DreamCastGuy over on Twitter, players now know that Cyberpunk 2077’s day one patch size is going to be 43.5 GB, at least on Xbox One. Earlier this year fans were surprised by Cyberpunk 2077’s file size, being only 70GB in size. Unfortunately, that day one patch seems to add quite the bit of data onto a fairly hefty game.
Of course, Cyberpunk 2077’s file size is only going to get bigger post release. CD Projekt Red has already announced plans for Cyberpunk 2077 DLC and expansions, which will undoubtedly add to the game’s file size. Still, fans have plenty of time to free up space, seeing as we have no idea what Cyberpunk 2077’s post launch content will look like as of yet. It’s also worth mentioning that while it’s still unclear what the day one patch for other platforms looks like exactly, it’s at least likely that the PS4 version’s day one patch will be roughly the same size as the Xbox One’s.
Though, as more and more content creators and outlets receive review copies, players might find out the other platform’s day one patch sizes, as well. Unfortunately, those planning on streaming Cyberpunk 2077 early should rethink those plans. CD Projekt Red has already gotten ahead of content creators and made it abundantly clear that there will be consequences for streamers that show Cyberpunk 2077 early. Still, the wait for Cyberpunk 2077 is almost over, though it seems fans will really have to wait until December 10 on the dot until they can finally see all that Night City has to offer.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on December 10th, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions currently in development.
