Destiny 2‘s most-recent expansion, Beyond Light, launched almost a month ago to the excitement of dedicated fans. The Destiny 2 expansion was packed to the brim with new story missions, new features, and new endgame content, including the continued inclusion and support of the popular Trials of Osiris competitive PvP mode. Unfortunately, a couple of particularly egregious exploits led to Trials of Osiris being shut down before it was restarted mid-November. However, Bungie now appears ready to implement it.
In a message shared via the official Bungie Help Twitter account, Trials of Osiris will be returning sooner than may have been expected. The next round of Trials of Osiris will start on December 18, if everything goes to plan. A hotfix correcting the mode’s issues is currently being worked on, so the December 18 date is only tentative. There’s always a possibility that Bungie encounters an unforeseen issue. But if everything goes to plan, Trials of Osiris will be back in two weeks.
Trials of Osiris was originally planned to start mid-November, but was placed on hold for a matter of weeks. The issue at the time was referenced as a “recently discovered issue” and nothing more. At the time, November 27 was the planned return date. On November 27, Bungie then indefinitely delayed Trials of Osiris, citing another “recently discovered issue.” It’s assumed that these issues were in-game exploits that Bungie didn’t want to call attention to.
Fans believe they’ve discovered what these PvP exploits are, however. There are two of them, though it’s always possible that there could be others that Bungie is working on secretly. The first is being called the Titan Stasis Invisibility bug, which allows Behemoth Stasis Titans to turn invisible. Not appearing on enemy radars is obviously a huge advantage in PvP. The second exploit has to do with the Lament Exotic sword. Basically, it could be made to do a lot of damage without requiring any ammo whatsoever.
Bungie hasn’t clarified what bugs it’s fixing before implementing Trials of Osiris, but these two exploits could certainly be the problem. They certainly deserve to be fixed before Trials of Osiris goes live, regardless of whether they’re the issues that Bungie is focusing on hotfixing.
It’s an unfortunate shame that things have worked out like this. Trials of Osiris is a big deal to a niche within the Destiny 2 community and having it close to Beyond Light‘s launch was important. The large, active playerbase at an expansion’s launch is always the best time for PvP. Bungie’s doing its best to fix things fast, though. Hopefully, that excitement is still there come December 18.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
