Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 Must Be One of These Four Things

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans have waited patiently for information and DLC, but there’s still a lot that is unknown about the final portion of the season pass. It’s looking like DLC 3 will release after Kakarot‘s anniversary, but that hasn’t stopped some players from speculating about what the new story arc will be about. At this point, there aren’t very many options left over, and it will most likely fall into one of four different categories. Fans can expect to see Hit and the Universe 6 Saga, Zamasu and the Future Trunks Saga, Broly from the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, or something completely original altogether.

Early on in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s launch days, an important change was made to the season pass. What was originally referred to as two original story episodes was changed to show two boss battle episodes, and important distinction that changed the way fans viewed the season pass. Unfortunately, it has also left a lot of confusion about the fate of the third DLC. Regardless, the four options listed above seem to be the only realistic choices for the third DLC, though there are plenty of other less likely stories that could be adapted.

Since both of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s first two DLCs have adapted story arcs from the Dragon Ball Super anime, it stands to reason that the third DLC will continue that trend. Continuing on chronologically from Golden Frieza, the next logical step would be the introduction of Hit and the Universe 6 Saga. This arc sees Goku and friends enter a tournament against the strongest fighters from Universe 6, and also introduces the concept of Dragon Ball Super‘s multiverse, as well as expanding its pantheon of gods.

While it seems likely for those obvious points, there are some good reasons to be doubtful about the Universe 6 Saga’s inclusion. For starters, as the final DLC of the bunch, it would be strange to introduce the multiverse and then do nothing with it. Beyond that, the story itself doesn’t lend itself well to a full story arc, as the friendly nature of the tournament differs greatly from the life or death stakes of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s story arcs. There are also only eight real battles that take place between playable characters and opponents in this arc, and this would require developers to design five new enemies.

The strangest thing about including the Future Trunks Saga in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is that it would have players skipping over the Universe 6 Saga, but this may not be a huge issue. The biggest takeaway from that saga is the multiverse, something that doesn’t come into play during Future Trunks’ Saga until the very end when the Omni King erases the timeline. Given that this is also one of the most contentious parts of the saga, it could well be that the ending would be changed.

This would bring Future Trunks back into the story and allow players to use him more, and would also potentially give a new Super Saiyan Rage form to him, putting him on par with Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta. There’s also the added perk of reintroducing Vegito to the game, this time as Vegito Blue. Fans weren’t happy with the way fusion was handled in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, as it ended up being a one and done thing. The result is that fan favorites Vegito and Gotenks are only playable in one mission in the time machine, and a Future Trunks Saga DLC could be the way to fix that.

Fans have been speculating about Broly’s inclusion in Kakarot before the game even released, but a story DLC would be the perfect place to do this. For one, it doesn’t require any sort of multiverse explanation, and it also keeps Goku and Vegeta at the same power level (in the movie, they don’t use SSB Kaioken or SSB Evolved). Instead of gaining access to a new form, players could gain access to Gogeta, the fusion of Goku and Vegeta by way of the Metamoran fusion dance.

Though it may seem odd to not consider the Tournament of Power, there’s simply way too much backstory that would be missing if players jumped straight from Golden Frieza into that arc. On the other hand, the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie does technically take place after the events of the Tournament of Power, so there would be some strange overlap there. It would probably be easy enough to ignore this overlap, but it does pose a problem nonetheless. At this point, it seems a lot more likely than Dragon Ball Z‘s Broly making an appearance, as Kakarot has stuck with what is canon for the most part.

The final option for this upcoming DLC is that it will feature some kind of original story. The precedent for this mostly comes from the misleading language used in the season pass, as many interpreted the change to mean that the story arc would be original. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but players have a lot of ideas for what types of original content Kakarot could add. These ideas mostly focus around three characters.

Bonyu is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s unique original character, but despite this she didn’t get much love. Many thought that DLC 2 was the nail in the coffin for Bonyu, but it’s still theoretically possible that she could be the focus of this next DLC. Android 21 is also present in the game as the Female Researcher, so Kakarot could expand on her role in the canon of the game. Finally, Mira makes an appearance as Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s secret boss with a very open-ended story that could easily be elaborated on.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
