Animal Crossing: New Horizons Video Highlights All the New Content for December 2020

While Nintendo has done a fine job of keeping Animal Crossing: New Horizons players busy with consistent updates, fans have had their attention focused on the game’s Holiday 2020 update for some time. Thankfully, it seems like Christmas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is going to deliver, as a video highlights the many things coming to the game in December.

Like with other monthly updates, the video opens by highlighting all the new creatures that players can catch in December. Players in the Northern Hemisphere can catch some new bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with one being highlighted specifically. The Drone Beetle will be seen pushing balls of snow around islands later in the month, a cute detail that makes it stand out from the game’s other critters. Lobsters can be caught in the sea, with the pond smelt available in rivers.

As highlighted in the reveal of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ winter update, players will soon be able to encounter Jingle in the plaza of Resident Services. The Santa-like reindeer NPC will task players with giving gifts to their villagers on Toy Day, delivering the seasonal items via a big white sack. Rather wisely on Nintendo’s part, Toy Day is set to take place on December 24, leaving Christmas day free for players to spend with their real-life families instead of their adorable lineup of villagers.

The toys players will be able to exchange with their villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are shown off in the trailer as well. Everything from toy robots to dollhouses are available to buy from Nook’s Cranny, with players able to start their toy collections now — even though snow and Christmas trees have yet to arrive. The trailer also shows off a gift from Nintendo to players of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which sees their NookPhones decorated with a special pattern.

The rest of the trailer for the Game of the Year nominee showcases the new mechanics that will be available in the back half of December. Players will be able to roll snow to make snowmen, with the finished creations giving player islands a festive touch. When snow arrives, it will do more than just make islands look prettier and colder. Players will be able to shake the snow-covered pine trees of their islands to receive ornaments in return, with the items being used to craft massive Christmas trees and other themed items.

The trailer even seems to show a Christmas countdown with Isabelle, showing that even the loneliest Animal Crossing players will have someone to celebrate the Holidays with. With December’s plentiful content set to kick into full gear soon, now seems like as good of a time as ever to jump into Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
