Floyd Mayweather is Going to Fight Logan Paul in a Boxing Match

Regarded by many as the pound for pound greatest boxer of all time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather retired back in 2017 after defeating UFC megastar Conor McGregor via TKO in the 10th round. He finished his illustrious career with 50 wins and no losses, having conquered the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Arturo Gatti, Jose Luis Castillo, Shane Mosley, and Oscar De La Hoya.

Following his bout with McGregor, Mayweather constantly teased that he’d eventually come out of retirement for some super fight matchups, eventually stepping back in the ring to face undefeated kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018 under exhibition rules. Yesterday, the boxing legend announced he’d fight in another exhibition match on February 20, 2021, except this time against controversial YouTube star Logan Paul.

The announcement was instantly mocked by both the YouTube and boxing world on Twitter, with fans in complete and utter disbelief that the event will actually move forward. Paul has been teasing the bout on social media in recent weeks, often challenging the retired megastar to a pay-per-view match, but many considered the videos to be one-sided callouts for a fight that was evidently too ridiculous to ever happen. After all, the former-Vine-star currently holds a professional boxing record of 0-1 following his defeat at the hands of British mainstay KSI early last year. That event was also criticized by boxing fans seeing as the pair were amateur-level boxers with only a few years of training under their belts, yet, still main-evented a card featuring clashes for world championships.

Regardless, it seems the event will officially be going ahead this coming February. With the bout slated to be an exhibition match, the result will not affect either fighter’s professional record, meaning Mayweather will still maintain his 50-0 record if Paul manages to somehow defeat him. For those wondering why exhibition rules have been put in place, Mayweather weighs much less than his opponent, with the boxer fighting at just under 150 lbs when squaring up against Conor McGregor in 2017. Logan Paul, on the other hand, weighed in at just under 200 lbs for his fight with KSI. The clash between both stars will undoubtedly be a bizarre event to watch unfold when it airs next February.

Since his retirement, a number of dream fights have been teased by Floyd Mayweather, including a match-up with recently retired UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov and a rematch against Manny Pacquiao following their epic battle back in 2015. No one was expecting the fight that would entice the legendary boxer back to the sport would be against one of YouTube‘s most divisive figures.
