CD Projekt Red’s highly-anticipated open world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is finally set to launch later this week. While hype for the game is high, some of the early Cyberpunk 2077 reviews have lessened expectations a bit, as many reviewers have complained about the game’s excessive, and in some cases, game-breaking, bugs. However, it seems those picking up Cyberpunk 2077 on day one will have a smoother experience than game reviewers did, as the Day One patch will reportedly address many of the game’s technical problems.
According to CD Projekt Red’s Fabian Dohla, some of the Cyberpunk 2077 bugs that reviewers have complained about have already been fixed, and even more bugs will be squashed with the game’s Day One update. The Cyberpunk 2077 Day One patch is rather large in size, but it seems as though it will be worth it for those who want a smoother overall experience from the open world game.
That being said, all of the Cyberpunk 2077 reviews that are out now are about the PC version of the game, as outlets reportedly didn’t receive console versions to test. This has led to some concern that the Cyberpunk 2077 console versions will be inferior products when compared to the PC version, and may be even buggier. However, Dohla has reassured console gamers somewhat, going as far as to say that it’s a “different game” with the Day One update installed, even on console.
If the Cyberpunk 2077 Day One patch is as substantial as CD Projekt Red suggests, then it should go a long way in addressing many of the complaints reviewers have had about the game. Generally speaking, the vast majority of Cyberpunk 2077 reviews have been positive, and almost all of the complaints have been about its bugs. If the bugs are eliminated, then Cyberpunk 2077 should be an even better experience than the reviews suggest.
Even with its bugs, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the highest-rated games of the year so far, with a 91 score on review aggregate site OpenCritic. However, it has released too late in the year to be eligible for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. It will be eligible for the 2021 Game Awards, though, and with future updates likely making it an even smoother experience, it could stand a chance at winning.
Not only will 2021 bring updates that address even more of Cyberpunk 2077‘s bugs and lingering technical problems, but it will also see the launch of the next-gen versions of the game. Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox Series X should be an even more impressive game, so those on console may want to think about waiting until those versions are available before jumping into Night City.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches December 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions releasing in 2021.
