Earlier today, IO Interactive released a new gameplay trailer for Hitman 3, providing brief details about how players can assassinate their targets, whether it be by getting close and personal or just throwing a brick at their heads from a distance.
Though the game is scheduled for a multi-platform release, with it coming to the Xbox line of consoles, PC, Stadia, and even the Nintendo Switch (albeit as a cloud-based version), IO’s communications manager, Travis Barbour, has taken to the PlayStation Blog to cover some of the extra features that will only be available on the PlayStation 5 version.
Firstly, Barbour confirms that Hitman 3 on PS5 will boast 4K visuals, 60fps, HDR support, and faster load times, and IO will also offer free next-gen upgrades for anyone who buys the PlayStation 4 version, which is perfect considering how difficult it is to get a PS5 at the moment.
Barbour then moves onto how the game will take advantage of the DualSense controller’s features. Every gun in the game will support the adaptive triggers, so as to make the action of firing weapons feel more authentic.
As an example, Barbour explains how the game’s Focus effect works. While using a sniper rifle, Focus will slow down time. To activate it, players need to gently push down on the R2 button until they feel a tension point that resists the pressure of pushing down on the button. Once the player is ready to fire their gun, they must push past that tension point, upon which they’ll feel the click of the trigger. Each weapon will also have unique haptic feedback, meaning they will all feel differently when used. For example, automatic weapons will simulate recoil with every bullet fired.
Lastly, Barbour talks about the already confirmed VR support, reiterating that anyone who owns the first two Hitman games on PS4 can play those games’ missions in VR through Hitman 3. Though there was some initial confusion about whether VR support was actually possible on the PS5, Barbour says that it can be done via backwards compatibility and, so everyone can experience it, all PS5 copies of Hitman 3 will come with a free digital copy of the game, which is arguably a boon even for those uninterested in VR.
While Hitman 3 is IO’s priority at the moment, the studio announced that it is working on a currently untitled James Bond game as well, which will serve as an origin story explaining how the titular spy earned his status as 007.
Hitman 3 will release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on January 20, 2021.
