New Destiny 2 Seasons Will Have More Weapons than Beyond Light or Shadowkeep

With 2021 approaching, Bungie reveals plans to have more weapons than previous Destiny 2 expansions Beyond Light and Shadowkeep. In a blog post by Assistant Game Director, Joe Blackburn, he describes how rewards will be changing in Year 4 of Destiny 2.

The post explains how developers at Bungie are constantly trying to make every Season in Destiny 2 worthwhile for players. Season 12 saw changes to Destiny 2’s ecosystem of weapons, phasing out various weapons from reaching max Power. Blackburn notes that this update had two missteps: A small loot pool of weapon drops and player frustration at seeing others with gear that is now unobtainable.

Therefore, to remedy these issues Blackburn commits to three major promises upcoming for Destiny 2. First, with each season in the new year the overall ecosystem of weapons will grow. With some exceptions, all the weapons that can reach the Power Level Cap will be earnable in game. And finally, future annual expansions will have more new weapons to collect than either Beyond Light or Shadowkeep.

Blackburn does not just make abstract promises for Destiny 2 in Year 4. He also commits to specific updates coming to the game when it begins Season 13. There will be six new Legendary weapons for popular activities, two for strikes, Gambit, and Crucible. The icing is how Nightfall Strikes will be getting three unique weapons, The Palindrome, The Swarm, and Shadow Price. And for hardcore Destiny 2 players, Adept versions of these weapons will be available from some of the most fun content, Grandmaster Nightfalls.

With Destiny 2 receiving major changes in 2020, three years after launch, it is not surprising that Blackburn describes it as a “large and complex game.” It is a good sign that Bungie is willing to recognize the weaker aspects of new systems and seek to improve them despite any challenges. With a recent update improving the sci-fi shooter for next-generation consoles, now is looking like a great time for fans to hop back in.

Certain elements are bound to get stale or limiting with a loyal fanbase devoting a massive amounts of time. Some players may lament these changes as not going far enough to make Destiny 2 substantially more exciting. Especially with the vaulting of old story content, making previous experiences inaccessible to players in any form. But, weapon updates are the tip of the iceberg as Blackburn teases even more positive changes coming in Year 4.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
