A new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War leak reveals that a very popular mode could soon arrive in the game. The fan-favorite mode is expected to return when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Season 1 launches in just a few days.
Developer Treyarch’s sixth installment in its Black Ops series launched on November 13. The game has since received mixed reviews, with some praising its campaign and others criticizing multiplayer’s lack of depth. The cross-generational title has also been plagued with frequent bugs, so much so that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Season 1 and Warzone integration were delayed.
However, despite not launching December 10 as intended, the franchise is planning to release a Season 1 trailer at The Game Awards, with plans to launch a week later on December 16. It’s quite possible the trailer will be where players will catch a first glimpse of the returning mode Prop Hunt. “Call of Duty Leaks,” a prominent Call of Duty leaker, took to Twitter to reveal via datamined files that Prop Hunt is coming with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s first season. Other significant sources have also corroborated the since-deleted tweet’s claim, such as ModernWarzone.

While some elements of Black Ops Cold War‘s Season 1 may be known, such as the Back to the Future-referencing multiplayer map, this new revelation has not been hinted at in the slightest by neither publisher Activision nor Treyarch. For those unaware, Prop Hunt is a mode where one team disguises themselves as random objects around the map, and the other tries to spot and eliminate them. The last time players saw the mode in a main entry Call of Duty title was 2017’s Call of Duty: WW2.
The return of Prop Hunt should come as a pleasant surprise to the CoD community, should the rumors be true. Players should take the news with a grain of salt, as there hasn’t been any official acknowledgment of any sort. However, the sources mentioned have been reliable regarding Call of Duty in the past, so it may be viable. Gamers just have to wait and see.
