Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mushroom Tournament Starting Soon

It’s officially been two years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has graced the Nintendo Switch and the steam isn’t slowing down any time soon. There will even be another character announced at The Game Awards 2020.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was first revealed in March of 2018, with an iconic trailer featuring Splatoon‘s Inklings duking it out. After that, Nintendo managed to surpass the hype with June’s “Everyone is Here” trailer which revealed that every legacy fighter from past Super Smash Bros. games would return, even those that were scrapped between previous entries.

Since its release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has seen a host of interesting additions, like Joker from Persona 5, Banjo and Kazooie, and even the out of left field Steve from Minecraft. Not only has this iteration of the mascot brawler seen some highly requested characters join the fray, but the additions are still incoming with at least four more characters coming before the end of Fighters Pass 2. To say Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the most ambitious title in the series to date is a fairly undeniable fact.

One of the ways Nintendo has added longevity to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s life cycle is the addition of online tournaments that typically revolve around a certain theme. While there is usually a tournament that hosts the classic rules of a competitive match, Nintendo also makes sure to please their casual fans with some oddball tournament entries and the newest addition is going to be a chaotic mess. The Mushroom Tournament boasts the exclusive inclusion of the game’s mushroom items. These are the Super Mushroom and Poison Mushroom from Super Mario Bros. and the Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom from Earthbound.

Players will have to be quick to grab the Super Mushroom’s size boosting bonus while avoiding the shrinking and control swapping nerfs the other mushrooms threaten them with. These legendary gaming power-ups will be sure to add tons of action to the battles.

Super Smash Bros. has been a source of controversy lately, with Nintendo’s cancellation of The Big House tournament after the tournament’s use of a modded version of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Seeing something positive come to the series is a much welcome addition that players can enjoy when the tournament launches this Friday, December 11th.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
