A massive hack earlier this year led to a number of upcoming Capcom projects leaking online. Among the franchises with potential titles revealed by the hack are Resident Evil, Dragon’s Dogma, and Mega Man. However, one game not showcased in the leak was Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, a revival of the arcade game announced for the Nintendo Switch at The Game Awards 2020.
The original Ghosts ‘n Goblins was an infamously difficult side-scrolling platformer released in 1985, which was ported to other consoles including the NES. That original title will be releasing on Switch alongside 31 other titles in Capcom Arcade Stadium next February. However, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is a reboot with “storybook-like graphics” and challenging new obstacles, according to its listing on Nintendo’s website.
Resurrection aims to welcome back “faithful fans” while introducing a new generation to lead character Arthur, a knight who makes his way through the Demon Realm on a quest to rescue a princess in distress. The minute-long trailer released during The Game Awards 2020 does not provide a look at any story elements, but it gives players a good impression of the old-school difficulty they can expect.
Those who are looking forward to reliving one of Capcom’s classic, highly regarded arcade games updated for modern consoles only have to wait until February 25, meaning it will launch around the release of Capcom Arcade Stadium. Capcom also released a new trailer for its upcoming Switch title Monster Hunter Rise during The Game Awards, so fans of the developer should have a lot to enjoy in 2021.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection will be available for Nintendo Switch on February 25, 2021.
