10 Most Underpowered Weapons In Dark Souls 3 | Game Rant

There is a wide variety of interesting weapons to be found in Dark Souls 3. Some are used for their great stats and other advantages but others exist simply for lore or a joke. Since this game has been out for a few years, gamers around the world have tried almost every imaginable build by now.

With all this gameplay data, some have found a fair number of uniquely awful armaments. Weapons lacking power, range, good skills, or carrying a negative effect usually only get used for specific challenge playthroughs. In fact, some of these pieces shouldn’t even be called weapons.

10 Farron Greatsword

This unique ultra greatsword may look cool and have some neat tricks but it suffers from some crucial flaws. Almost all of its attacks can be parried, which cannot be said for most others in the same weapon class. The dagger that it comes paired with is useful for parrying but there are better daggers and shields for this that come with better effects. Save this weapon for a cosplay playthrough.

9 Thrall Axe

These are the tiny hand axes wielded by the crawling dwellers of the Undead Settlement. These minuscule hatchets deal the least damage out of any axe in the game. They have an equally poor reach and an unsuitable weapon skill. Quick Step used against a foe for a backstab with a weak axe results in minimal damage and is not a strategy worth the effort in most cases.

8 Four-Pronged Plow

Before upgrades, this farming implement does the same physical damage as the common Spear, like the one given to those who start their playthrough as a Herald. However, it has a longer reach and can be upgraded, making it a decent weapon despite its appearance. Sadly, it lacks a useable weapon ability, in that its Charge skill always ends in the player falling over and being extremely vulnerable for a few moments. This makes other spears more appealing by comparison.

7 Soldering Iron

This red-hot piece of metal is usually the bane of any who enter Irithyll Dungeon and do battle with the jailers. When used by these aggressive captors, they will lower the Ashen One’s maximum health temporarily, but severely.

Seems like it would be an overpowered weapon, however, in the hands of the player it merely decreases the amount of health foes can heal. Since it also has poor scaling and only moderate fire damage, this brand is one of the worst spears in the game.

6 Great Corvian Scythe

Reapers are a type of polearm in the game that functions like halberds and pikes. They usually scale with Dexterity and can be used effectively by many builds. The Great Corvian Scythe and the common Great Scythe are often compared for being similar. The Great Scythe has a longer reach and a lower stat requirement, though does less damage. Some prefer it to the Corvian variety because the avian-borne long sickle causes the wielder to bleed if used excessively. Against groups of enemies that can be struck in one sweeping blow, this side effect could be even more detrimental.

5 Whip

This weapon is the namesake for its class, though it is arguably the weakest out of all of them. Whips already have a reputation of possessing the kind of damage and moveset that makes doing battle with armored foes difficult, so they need all the help they can get in terms of effect damage and weapon skills. The common Whip has some of the lowest scaling and least possible effect damage out of all whips. It is not critically flawed, simply outshined by its peers.

4 Sniper Crossbow

Crossbows are great mid-range combat options for classes needing to engage targets from a distance but don’t have the right build for a bow. They can be wielded in one hand, making them ideal sidearms for many playstyles. The Sniper Crossbow, however, seems to be intended as a long-range weapon.

Although accurate and able to deal decent damage, it takes a longer time to reload and prepare than other crossbows, making it one of the worst for mid or close-range combat; the kind of conflict crossbows are the most useful in.

3 Torch

Although not technically a weapon, it can be wielded as one. It deals a little bit of strike damage and sub-par fire damage, although it can be reinforced and appears in the same menu as shields when speaking with Andre of Astora. It is probably better used for purposes other than combat, like ridding oneself of bleeding maggot infestations and illuminating the surroundings.

2 Broken Straight Sword

Literally a piece of garbage. Even its description says as much. Why anyone would use this is baffling, as this tool is usually only seen in the hands of mad hollows. Low stamina cost per attack is the only benefit this weapon has. It is better than punching at a foe with one’s bare fists, but not by much, as its damage and reach pale in comparison to all other swords.

1 Rotten Ghru Dagger

The foul fiends that crowd Farron’s fetid swamp sometimes carry simple daggers coated in filth. Their crude and disgusting appearance gives a good indication of what it is like to wield. The Rotten Ghru Dagger has one of the lowest physical attacks of any dagger in the game. It does not have any cool skills or useful effects to make up for it either. It does apply poison status to one’s adversary if the Ashen One lands enough hits but there are better ways to accomplish this besides waving an excrement-covered trowel at their foes.
