Rumor: Next PlayStation State of Play Could Be Happening Soon

The Game Awards 2020 was a big event with plenty of surprise reveals and exciting new trailers. However, there were some announcements and trailers that fans expected to see, only for the games in question to never make an appearance. While some fans may be disappointed that their anticipated games weren’t at The Game Awards, it could be because companies like Sony are saving the announcements for their own events at a later date.

In fact, it could be that the next PlayStation State of Play event will take place within the first couple months of the new year. AestheticGamer, who is has accurately leaked industry news in the past (particularly as it pertains to horror games and the Resident Evil franchise), has suggested that Sony has an event planned for January or February of 2021. AestheticGamer didn’t specificy that it would be a State of Play, but typically Sony uses its State of Play events to showcase upcoming PlayStation titles.

If Sony does have a State of Play event in January or February of 2021, one game that fans may expect to see is Resident Evil 8. A new Resident Evil 8 trailer was expected to be at The Game Awards, but it was a no-show. Capcom has mostly shown off Resident Evil 8 within the next of PS5 events previously, and so it would make sense that the company was waiting for the next one before showing the upcoming survival-horror game again.

Another game horror fans may want to see is the rumored Silent Hill PS5 reboot. Similarly to Resident Evil 8, some fans tuned in to The Game Awards hoping that the long-rumored horror game would finally be shown off. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the Silent Hill PS5 reboot by the time The Game Awards came to a close, but maybe if fans are lucky, the game will finally be shown off at whatever PlayStation event is apparently taking place in January or February.

Of course, fans should keep their expectations in check. Sony has not officially announced any plans for its next State of Play or any other kind of PS5 event. Plans can change, and it’s possible that fans will have to wait longer than expected for Sony to showcase more of its upcoming games. Not only that, but even if Sony does host another State of Play within the first couple of months of 2021, it doesn’t mean Resident Evil 8 or Silent Hill will be there.

It’s been a couple of months since the last PlayStation State of Play, so it would make sense for Sony to have one sooner rather than later, though. PlayStation fans will just need to stay tuned for more information.
