Genshin Impact Version 1.2 Special Livestream Breakdown

miHoYo has released a new special Genshin Impact livestream, detailing features of the upcoming Dragonspine region. It seems that players can expect not only new regions with Dragonspine, but also new enemies, characters, events, and even gameplay mechanics.

The livestream aired on December 11, 2020 at 11 AM (EST) on the official Genshin Impact Youtube account, and was led by two voice actors, including the voice of Paimon, the game’s mascot. As per the Special Program, Travelers can expect a plethora of new content to arrive with Dragonspine later this December, much of which will play into a series of quests involving the upcoming Geo swordsman, Albedo.

The Dragonspine update will introduce players to an expansive new mountainous region, heavily affiliated with the Cryo Element. Rumors are that Dragonspine is littered with the bones of ancient dragons, so players can expect some of the game’s dragon-related lore to unfold here. The livestream also mentioned a shiny red substance that players will collect throughout Dragonspine, which is likely the previously leaked “glimmering tincture.”

The video also showcased some new Cryo enemies, like a Frost Lawachurl, so players will definitely want to start taking advantage of shield users like Zhongli. And aside from new powerful enemies, players were given a small glimpse at various different upcoming features.

Players will now be able to explore dangerously cold areas that require warmth to survive. To that end, Travelers will be able to use special new Seelie to keep warm while traveling, as well as a new special item that allows the user to bottle up some warmth for on-the-go use. This feature is directly in line with Dragonspine’s Cryo theme, and needless to say, players fighting bosses in this region will have an entirely new in-battle aspect to consider.

Speaking of accessibility, the Dragonspine summit will also be an unlockable area of sorts, and is apparently blocked off by a mysterious force.

Version 1.2/Dragonspine will introduce Albedo and Ganyu, along with their respective story quests. Ganyu is a powerful Cryo archer, and Albedo is an alchemical master, and Geo swordsman. Each will have their own Special Character Banner, which will in turn feature four-star newcomers like the previously leaked Rosalia, who was teased during the 1.2 Livestream.

A new event featuring Albedo, The Chalk Prince, will take place during Version 1.2. The event ties into Albedo’s Story Quest directly, and will allow players to upgrade a powerful new free-to-obtain sword, while exploring Dragonspine and collecting “Crimson Agate.” The event will center itself around the Frostbearing Tree found in Dragonspine, which requires Crimson Agate to live. The tree can be upgraded and will offer players rewards including the new Frostbearer catalyst.

Dragonspine will also introduce a new Domain for players to challenge, which will reward two new Artifact Sets upon completion. The two new sets will function as the game’s first Cryo DMG and Hydro DMG-boosting sets, respectively, and feature wonderful abilities that will enhance newcomers like Ganyu, and existing favorites like Childe. Recent leaks predicted Cryo, Hydro, and Geo Artifact Sets were all coming soon, so this seems properly in line with the leaks (though the abilities may have been tweaked since then).

Travelers who watched the livestream were treated to three unique codes that offered free Primogems along with some valuable materials. Although originally time-sensitive, the codes can now be entered by all players, whenever, and are as follows: 5KVeIbSxDUU – G3tQq6TOqmE – eATDgIXLD56.

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
