Henry Cavill Suffers Injury While Filming The Witcher Season 2

The Witcher’s production team has already had to deal with its fair share of COVID-related delays in the filming schedule. Kristofer Hivju was infected back in March, and just last month another delay came due to a minor outbreak among the production crew. However, in the latter’s case, filming was resumed shortly with new talent possibly being added to the show.

This all probably means The Witcher crew now has tight protocols in place to avoid any massive spreads of the virus that may prevent the show from being ready for its initial projected air date in summer 2021. However, coronavirus is not the only type of incident that can send a series filming process off its tracks.

As reported by UK’s The Sun, Henry Cavill suffered a recent injury on set while filming an action scene that may have involved some sort of assault course, after which the actor experienced pain in his leg, which in-turn causing filming to stop. The extent of Cavill’s injury is not fully known, but sources claim it’s unlikely to be anything too serious, as he didn’t need an ambulance.

Despite that, considering Cavill’s constant use of new Season 2 armor on set and the fact that he’s frequently involved in action scenes for The Witcher, it makes sense to have him step aside for a while, as the actor reportedly had difficulties walking after the event. The news does raise the question of how far behind schedule The Witcher might be, however.

With no official statements from Netflix, it’s all but confirmed that The Witcher will continue filming in early 2021, so there’s some possibility Season 2 would end up landing on the streaming platform toward the end of the year. Those plans would still leave The Witcher as the leading fantasy series on television, as the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon is currently planned for 2022.

The Witcher’s first season was met with generally positive reviews, even if some critics and fans questioned its pacing and time-skipping in the story. For Season 2, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has hinted this is something they’re eager to improve upon, while keeping the action scenes the show already had, both of which audiences are eager to see when a trailer for Season 2 is eventually revealed.

The Witcher Season 2 is coming to Netflix in 2021.
