Star Wars Andor TV Series Coming in 2022 | Game Rant

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduced fans to Cassian Andor, an intelligence officer for the Rebel Alliance portrayed by Diego Luna. While the Star Wars anthology film seemingly marked the first and only appearance by Andor, audiences will reunite with the character when his standalone series titled Andor debuts on Disney+ in 2022.

In Rogue One, Cassian Andor was tasked with locating and assassinating Imperial scientist Galen Erso, the primary designer of the Death Star who intentionally included a critical weakness in the weapon. His assignment leads to a meeting with Galen’s daughter, Jyn Erso, and the two guide a band of rebels on a mission to retrieve the plans to the Death Star. While they are successful in transmitting the schematics to the rebels, the entire team is killed in the ensuing battle and subsequent destruction of the Imperial base where Andor and Jyn made their last stand.

Now, Luna will reprise his role as Andor in a Disney+ series set before the events of Rogue One that follows the rebel officer during the formative years of Rebellion. Kennedy announced the official title of the series and confirmed its 2022 release year during Lucasfilm’s presentation at Disney’s Investor Day. Furthermore, the Lucasfilm president confirmed the series will also star Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. Production on Andor began two weeks before the December 10 presentation.

Included in the presentation was a sizzle reel that provided fans with a behind-the-scenes preview of Andor. “It was a bittersweet feeling at the premiere, knowing that it was just one film,” Luna said of his feelings ahead of Rogue One‘s release. “But then magic happens…There are tons of possibilities to explore. It is the building of a revolution.”

With the Skywalker Saga now complete, Lucasfilm appears to be focusing its effort on delivering Star Wars content to Disney+ for the time being. A number of new Star Wars shows were announced during the Investor Day presentation, and fans were learned that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Star Wars will, of course, return to the silver screen, and Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins will helm one of its forthcoming features. In a video clip featuring Jenkins, the filmmaker declared her intention to fulfill her goal of creating the “greatest fighter pilot movie of all time” with Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

Andor will be released exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.
