Funimation is finally arriving on the Nintendo Switch. After a Funimation app was teased for the Nintendo Switch just a couple of days ago, it has been confirmed via a tweet that it is happening on December 15, 2020.
Funimation was founded in 1994 and is an American anime company that specializes in dubbing Japanese anime to English. More recently, it has gotten into providing streaming services. With it now coming to the Switch, the Funimation app has been overhauled with a new interface, fresh features, and a new way to find shows and discover new anime. And now it is the only anime app on Nintendo’s hybrid console.
There are quite a few popular and beloved anime that folks have been able to enjoy on Funimation, including Persona 4: The Golden Animation, Attack on Titan, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Cowboy Bebop, Dangaronpa, My Hero Academia, Fairy Tale, and Demon Slayer. Funimation has quite the reputation among anime fans. For many, the dubbed versions of the episodes on a Saturday morning was the first taste of anime that they ever received. While many fans enjoy watching the authentic version in Japanese with English subtitles, there is no doubt that a huge following enjoy the dubbed versions that Funimation has provided for so long.
Perhaps one of the biggest competitors to Funimation is Crunchyroll, an anime streaming platform that is among the apps that Nintendo fans would like to see come to the Switch. Crunchyroll could certainly show up eventually, but now Funimation has the jump on the competition.
