Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has dozens of side quests to enjoy. They reward players with great items and some of them even contain some hidden easter eggs.
Age of Calamity has a wide variety of side quests. Some of them are text-based, in which the player reads a few lines and completes a request. Some of them are training and challenge missions, here gamers can practice and improve their skills and then earn rewards and bonus combos.
Once the quests are completed, the people of Hyrule will show their gratitude towards the player with gifts. There is something for almost anybody, regardless of which playable characters they prefer. Here are some of the coolest side quests. SPOILERS AHEAD
10 Armor For Whom
Mipha’s love for Link has been clear ever since it was revealed in Breath of the Wild that she had made the Zora Armor for him. The Zora Armor must be crafted by the Zora princess so that she can give it to her future husband, it’s a tradition.
Those that ship Mipha and Link will find this side quest particularly sweet. The quest consists of completing a request done by an “anonymous Zora”. Said Zora requests certain items to keep his daughter nourished since he’s noticed that she has been working late to craft the armor. This is clearly King Dorephan concerned with Mipha. If the player completes the request, they will receive the Zora Greaves.
9 Master Monster Roasts
In Breath of the Wild, Bokoblins can be found all throughout Hyrule cooking Seared Steak. This side quest mentions just that. The player needs to get closer to Bokoblins in order to learn the same secret techniques to cook meat to such perfection.
This side quest can easily go unnoticed in the middle of so many but it’s definitely worth doing as it is filled with humor, those that played BotW will find it particularly enjoyable and worth doing. Plus, when completed it’ll increase the number of slots for cooking in Age of Calamity.
8 Wedding Worry
Akkala Buns were a food item available in Breath of the Wild. However, only under odd circumstances. They can only be consumed if fed directly to Link by an NPC named Khini, found at East Akkala Stable. Link is instructed to open his mouth and close his eyes and not look at the food before eating it.
The item costs a total of 10 rupees which only adds to the strangest of the entire situation.
The weird encounter made fans want to know the recipe for the Akkala Buns. In Age of Calamity, the mystery is solved at last. By completing the side-quest “Wedding Worry” fans can unlock the recipe and make their own Akkala Buns (if they have enough Tireless Frogs in their inventory).
7 Link: Two-Handed Weapons
One of the most iconic locations in The Legend of Zelda series is Lon Lon Ranch. It was originally in Ocarina of Time for the N64 but it’s been in a few other Zelda games since. It made an appearance in Breath of the Wild, although it was named Ranch Ruins as it had been completely destroyed by the events of the Great Calamity.
However, seeing as Age of Calamity takes place before and during the Calamity, Lon Lon Ranch can be found before its destruction and it looks very similar when compared to the original. By doing the training side-quest “Link: Two-Handed Weapons” players can revisit Lon Lon Ranch in all its glory.
6 What Do Guardians Taste Like?
Most of the side quests regarding Gorons have to do with eating and this one isn’t any different. Yunobo’s curiosity has gotten the best of him and now he is wondering what Guardians might taste like. He’d like to eat one, however, that might prove to be quite dangerous.
To solve his problem, Yunobo makes a request. He wants the player to find ancient materials so that he try them out first. Not only is this text-based side quest funny but it reflects the Gorons’ personalities perfectly. Plus, it’s a nice break from the intense gameplay.
5 Taming The Savage Lynel
In this quest, the player must defeat 3 Lynels, a regular Lynel, a Blue-Maned Lynel, and a Malice Lynel. The first two will appear and then the third one will spawn immediately after one of the two is defeated so that the player is always fighting 2 Lynels at once.
Items are not allowed in this battle, this means that full-charged rods and healing apples are pointless because they cannot be used or consumed. It is time-limited, therefore it needs to be completed within 10 minutes.
4 Miss Vai Battle Pageant
Miss Vai Battle Pageant is a late-game side mission in which the player needs to defeat 5 pageant contenders, the last one being Link dressed in his Gerudo attire.
What makes it even funnier is the fact that Link, the great hero of Hyrule and the Princess’s appointed knight, decided to take some time off just to participate in a beauty pageant.
3 Hair-Width Trial: Expert+
Some players just enjoy seeing how far they can go. This is unarguably one of the toughest side missions in the game, perfect for those looking for an ultimate challenge.
There are several hair-width trials throughout Age of Calamity, from Beginner to Expert+. The challenge’s Expert+ difficulty requires the player to defeat 4 mini-bosses, one of them a Lynel. There are Octoroks scattered throughout the mission to make it even harder. And, the cherry on top of the cake, not taking damage is a win condition.
2 The King’s Secret Technique
King Rhoam is the first character that fans come across in Breath of the Wild, although disguised as an old man. Once King Rhoam becomes playable in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity he can quickly change his guise, from King to Old Man.
This side quest takes the fans back to Breath of the Wild. It describes how he goes to a secluded lodge from time to time in order to practice. This is the same lodge as in BotW. The player must aid him by providing materials that will increase his strength. And, as a reward, similarly to the first game, the player will receive the Warm Doublet.
1 Hyrule’s Greatest Warrior
“Hyrule’s Greatest Warrior” is one of the best side quests in the game because of its reward. It is by completing this side quest that the player can obtain Link’s classic green garbs, belonging to Breath of the Wild Link, the Hero of the Wild.
In order to complete this challenge, the player must face off against 4 different opponents: Revali, Mater Kohga, Link, and, lastly, Harbinger Ganon. By doing so, the player is then rewarded with the Trousers, the Tunic, and the Cap of the Wild.
