Kojima Productions has been awfully quiet since their latest title Death Stranding hit PC earlier this year. However, that seems to be changing as the company took to its Twitter account to announce “exciting new updates” that will be revealed on December 16.
December 16 marks five years since veteran game director Hideo Kojima left Japanese giant Konami to start off his own company Kojima Productions. At E3 2016, Kojima made a surprising comeback with a brand new cryptic trailer for his upcoming game Death Stranding, that released four years later on PS4, and then on PC. Kojima Productions has since then revealed that it’s working on a new project and that it’s hiring “best-in-class” talent to work in its Tokyo-based studio. Since then, the speculation regarding Kojima’s next game has been sky high, with rumors even escalating towards a new Silent Hill game that would be exclusive to PS5.
These rumors may very be put to rest as Kojima Production is set to deliver some exciting new updates via their social media platforms on December 16. The announcement takes place at 12 AM ( NYC), 5 AM ( UK), 6 AM ( CET), and 2 PM (JP), according to the official Kojima Productions Twitter handle. While the company hasn’t revealed what it will be announcing tomorrow, it’s important to note that could feature more than one announcement as it says “updates,” not update.
Hideo Kojima has yet to comment on anything in this regard. While it’s too early to expect an open-world AAA game so early from Kojima Productions, it’s also important to note that it announced Death Stranding even before they had a game engine to build it on. Additionally, Kojima has also shown interest in working on smaller projects such as anime, manga, or even episodic games, so one of these announcements may be in regards to this.
With shockingly low sales that plagued Death Stranding last year, expecting a sequel may not be in everybody’s best interest, however, Kojima has confirmed that if he ever works on a Death Stranding sequel, he would start off from scratch. While the game may not return in the traditional sense of the way, its complex strand system may be present in future games that Kojima Productions works on.
In contrast, the new update may also be hinting towards a proper next-gen upgrade for Death Stranding on PS5 as it has none at the moment. Many Death Stranding fans have expressed the desire for a quality of life update on Sony’s shiny new system, especially with the addition of the DualSense controller, which can be tweaked to make traversing in the game even more engaging than it is.
