A John Woo-inspired action title is headed to the Nintendo Switch. The Hong Kong Massacre is a top-down shooter that first released on PC and the PS4 at the start of 2019, almost two years ago. But now the title will arrive on Nintendo’s hybrid console the day after Christmas.
The Hong Kong Massacre is an indie developed game that was both created and published by Vreski when it came out in 2019. However, for the Switch title, indie publisher Untold Tales is handling the publishing making it the second game the newly formed studio has handled. Prior to this, Untold Tales previously handled another indie title known as Beautiful Desolation.
The Hong Kong Massacre is specifically inspired by classic action films and John Woo, a Hong Kong director who is famous for his action flicks. Although John Woo collaborated to create Stranglehold back in 2007, many wish that more titles were created by Woo or at least made with his style. The Home Kong Massacre answers that call in many ways, as players are tasked with taking down rooms of enemies with stylistic flips, slides, and more. The action-thriller is violent, high-octane, and challenging; it also plays similarly to the likes of Hotline Miami.
Many have hoped for a sequel to John Woo’s Stranglehold, but The Hong Kong Massacre looks like a nice indie title in its stead, as it plays like a classic action thriller. On top of the game being released on December 26, 2020, Untold Takes and Professor Kliq have teamed up to make the official soundtrack of the game available as a free download for fans. All players who are interested simply need to join the newsletter of Untold Tales.
The Hong Kong Massacre is available now on PC and PS4 and will arrive on Nintendo Switch on December 26, 2020.
